Title: Applecross driving road
Post by: Varche on 16 May 2019, 21:48:43
Well that is one more thing off my bucket list.

Mixed feelings. I expected sweeping curves and steep climbs and descents. It was steep but was mostly short blats  single road between passing places with an endless stream of timid folk coming the other way.  Awful surface with dodgy edges.  Marvellous views and great seafood at Applecross.

Anyone else been?

Yep. The other road back out was sublime iirc but i know what you mean.
Nice food in the pub and the diy village fuel pump is fun with a load of thirsty kit cars in town.

try it in a 2.1m wide camper, I had loads of room but the timid drivers coming the other way in micras, panicked. ;D

We followed a three axle boat fuel delivery tanker driven in a spirited manner on the “ other road” for a while. That was entertaining. Most of the camper vans seem to be rentals so even more carefully driven if such a thing is possible. ;D

Never been further than Fort William.  I really fancy a tour round the whole area above the Great Glen.

It's well worth it. Superb roads and diminishing numbers of yanks in hire cars the further north you go. :y

Although all the NC500 hype might well have changed that and spilt the beans on what was a closely guarded secret. ::)
