Title: Looks like I'll be driving a french car for a bit...
Post by: Viral_Jim on 24 May 2019, 13:21:51
They say you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth but...

Mrs 944's mother passed away a couple of weeks ago and we stand to inherit a 2010 (I think) Citroen Berlingo Multispace.  This car has some sentimental value to her Grandmother who is still with us, so I have been banned from immediately selling it and buying literally anything else, or setting fire to it.

I wonder what the minimum socially acceptable time is before we can sell it on  :-\

You get a fair amount of 'stuff' in one of those, Jimmy. Use it as a van for trips to the tip, etc.

I think that will be the top and bottom of it Ste, I was surprised and disappointed by how little stuff went in the terracan on its last tip run, mainly due to the 1990's folding seat design meaning they don't fold down into the foot wells. Silver linings and all that  :y

We'll probably have to hang on to it a while anyway to try and get the smell of stale fags out of it. Mrs 944 senior was a solid 40-a-day type of lady. Bits of the headlining actually have a nicotine yellow hue to them  :o

You'll probably get a bag of marbles and a packet of cheese'n'onion for it when you do get shot, then.  ;D

You'd love it M'lud, its an auto and sports 1600cc of diesel goodness under the bonnet! :y

I've not driven her yet, but I can only imagine the performance is blistering. ;)

You may grow to like it,  we had one as a workshop van,  got the life thrashed out of it on a daily basis and lasted for 150k,  So you might have it a while.

Much like a unicorn or winged flying horse. :)

Staple workhorse in Spain. Replaced the C15.

Performance wont be much of an issue anywhere in England given the levels of traffic , road works, smart roads.

1600 auto diesel. Perfect. Hopefully it has cruise control :y

Awesome little vans.  I have one with 210k miles on it and it is brilliant.

Take the backseats out and you have a full van that you can load to the top and take to the tip and you won't get any grief from the tip monkeys because its classed as a car - try that with an actual van and round here you get turned away.

Mine is the 1600 diesel manual 2009 and its solid,  Other than a couple of top mounts and new horn its never gone wrong.

Cheers

As its French, about half an hour should suffice.  :y

1600cc means its an HDI model so plenty of poke but not so sure with the auto box.
Will have to get a rear window sticker "Snap Off, because its French" though
We have an 06 Poo Go version at work, 28k and its been nothing but a problem child
Engine fine, I cant destroy that-yet
Everything else is problematic.
It got jammed in 4th once so a very smoky clutch but the time we got back
Two sets of gearlinkages, steering rack twice
Just some of the things with ours

The auto quite suits the torque of the weasel engine tbh so not a bad drive :y

Just bide your time. Sooner or later it'll set fire to itself. :y

By way of an update, SWMBO has had a test drive in it (at my insistence I might add  :y) and has now agreed that due to the smell of smoke it needs to go  :y

As soon as the probate goes through I'll launch a thread about how you get a car to stop smelling like an ashtray   ;D

The search for a sub-£1000 auto estate is back on  :)

You'll get nowt for it and, like I said, it just might be handy for load lugging. I suppose the downside is you'll be paying to tax and insure it if it sits around most of the time.

Could try leaving a few trays of charcoal in it. See if it absorbs the smell?

Pushing it off a cliff will be more satisfying, mind. :D

Go to Costa ( other coffee shops available) and ask for the old grinds, leave them in for a while.
