Title: Holes
Post by: Lizzie Zoom on 31 May 2019, 12:23:42
Another thread, or two, has been on about holes in a wall.

Well it has reminded me of one of my favourite songs during early childhood by the great Bernard Cribbins:

They do not make them like that anymore ;D ;D ;)

I bumped into him while going into the bar at the Albert hall in 1991. Almost knocked his pint out of his hand, but he apologised to me.  :)

I adore 'the Crib', as he is affectionately known in our house, whether it's as above Railway Children, Wombles (he voiced/narrated), Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who (1960s film and modern series) and christ knows how many other appearances elsewhere, he's just a legend, and always appears sweet as anything.

He once appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks...youre a little fearful that a gentle soul like that would get ripped to shreds by all these raucous young 'uns, as has happened on the show... it was mentioned that someone had paid a record sum for a pair of Kylie Minogue's knickers, there was a pause... and cuddly, sweet innocent Cribbins pipes up saying "Do you wanna see 'em?" and absolutely brought the house down with tears of laughter.

Legend!  :D

I wouldn't be minded to pay for Kylie's knickers. Too scrawny for my liking.

He has always come across as a real gent, unlike some others in that profession, and your experience Migv6 backs that up 8) :y

I have been a follower of Eric from his Yardbirds days, the fantastic Cream, short lived Blind Faith, then Derick and the Dominos , into his brilliant solo career. 8) 8) 8)

I am jealous you got to see Clapton live, which I never managed to :'( :'(

Theres still time. He plays gigs in this country every year, usually at the Albert Hall. Tbh, though, at 74, he isn't exactly at his peak these days, but still better than most of what passes for music these days.
And if you haven't yet watched "A life in 12 bars", you must.  ;)

:y :y :y  Didn't know that.  I thought he had problems with his throat,or something, but still even at 74 I bet he can still give them that lovely blues sound :-* :-* ;)

He has problems with his arms. Has some nerve damage from playing for 60 years, which limits what he can do at times.
As said, if you haven't already watched A life in 12 bars, its an absolute must. Tells his whole life story, warts and all, from birth to a year or so ago.

Albert hall this year.
