Title: Powerrrrrrr....did you ever think?
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 20 July 2019, 20:59:39
... Lotus have just announced their new Evija hypercar, which will develop 1,973bhp. Yes, I've not accidentally hit two keys at once. that is nearly two thousand horses. Now I remember the venerable 'old' Veyron hitting its 1000bhp+ figure and thinking "wow, that's the same hp as a WW2 Spitfire! Isn't that incredible, that we're here in a road car, it's beyond belief!"

Mid-90s the McLaren F1 hit 600bhp+, and a Lotus Carlton was still the daddy for 4dr saloons at its 377bhp. In comparison with today the F1 seems sedate, the Lotus seems piddly! Of course they're not, they're Earth-shatteringly fast vehicles... Anyone else feel just staggered at the level we have reached? And wonder how much more there possibly is to come?

Good as a headline grabbing figure and as "See what we can do",but where are owners ever going to get the chance to use it?Could many of them handle such power?Wasn't it the Veyron that at full chat would burn its fuel at such a ridiculous rate that you'd hardly get anywhere before the tank was dry,but even so you'd have worn the tyres out long before you got even that far?

Indeed, the idea of owning a Lamborghini Guillardo or Ferrari etc is little more than a romantic notion... You can only use them to their potential on a track, but doing so costs in terms of wear and repairs. On a public road, a Tesla has similar performance and a family hatch back will get you to/from work just as quickly...

If you're in the market for a 'supercar', buy a 2+2 GT convertible and use it for road trips

This is very naughty of Lotus. They should be developing a nice little electric car.

yes that would be good, and well within their character.

Something like the original Tesla roadster.

Its actually easier and cheaper to achieve over 2000 bhp out of an V6 Omega.  ;)

if you buy enough of them.  ;D

You can buy 2000hp twin turbo LS crate engines. For street use :y

There are worse uses for $50,000. That's only the engine though, so you'll probably be spending another $100k on the rolling chassis
