Title: Bit warm in TB Towers
Post by: TheBoy on 23 July 2019, 18:59:36
There is now a precariously balanced fan pointing at the networking gear to cool it off ;D.

I suspect tomorrow one of the servers will shut itself down - it got within 2C of doing so today, so I'll probably pre-empt it and shut it down in the morning. This should have minimal impact except loss of resilience.

Bigger fan on 2 of the network switches, at full chat now.  That's stopped the alarms, and lowered their temps to sub 70C ;D.

The problematic server is still 5C off critical, so its staying on for now, to maintain resilience for as long as possible.

Tomorrow, you die. Fried to a crisp in temperatures akin to the Sahara desert. Or you could just put up with it for a day.  ;D

It's been very hot here, too. My car reckoned it was 42° when I got in it this afternoon.  ;D

You need to get the temp sensor replaced under that extended warranty. :y ;D

Temps on that problematic server now falling, suspect all will be good for now, and I can start worrying again tomorrow ;D

One server turned off to reduce heat, along with one switch and one UPS.

Looking like we might get another storm, so hopefully that will take several degrees out of the air temp :)

Been very uncomfortable today, only went out twice for two short walks with doggie. On the way back this aft, in a lovely air conditioned car, we drove back through one of the more......erm.....'deprived' areas of Barnsley. We did it deliberately because we just knew we'd see some sights. We weren't disappointed. Shirtless drunks the colour of a lobster, fat birds with all their wobbly bits out, a water fight outside Iceland with kids running out into the road. Well worth the detour.  ;D

It was 38 degrees in Cambridge today. We are 20 or so miles from there as the crow flies, so not far off that here.
Thankfully its predicted to cool down a lot over the next 24 hours or so.

Thanks TB for keeping the OOF infrastructure below critical mass  :y :y

I'd post you a cornetto or solero ,but no deliveries to TB Towers arrive successfully   ;D

All equipment back on as from early this morning, and running well.

2 of the switches still need a deskfan to keep them cool, which is worrying :(

So, judging by the outage today TB, has the heat brought down 21st century technology? ::) ::) :P ;D ;D ;D ;D

It wasn't the heat, which we'd managed to control reasonably effectively during the hot spell, it was due to disk corruption due to a split brain on the storage cluster.

schizophrenia is not the same as split personality disorder Uncle Stemo
one example of schizophrenia is the voices in my head that tell me to "stop at home and polish my gun collection " :P
