... not quite true, MG branded cars coming of the longbridge production line after 3 years away. Just sean it on sky news.
-
Y`know people say it was a shame for Rover. However i think they only had themselves to blame.
Karma.
They papped line after line of crap to the unsuspecting British Public.
Only last night i was looking at cars on ebay and one page of 25 random cars in my area had 3 "spares or repair / Head Gasket Failure" Rovers.
They had it coming.... :-/

The difference between my wifes 2001 Rover 25 and the 2005 one we had was amazing. The doors sounded tinny and the dash pastic was wafer thin on the newer one. Thats one reason she wouldn't keep the newer version, the other reason is her's is de-catted and chipped ::)

If they are coming out of Longbridge then, unless they have imported a load of chinese to build them, the route of the problem will still be present!

I just hope they haven't used the K series in this new TF

Our old '92 214 is great, just refuses to die- better built car than the miggy to be honest.
Would love an old SD1 vitty, chickened out & got a 635 instead though!

If it is the T20TN engine there are 2 belts, and 2 tensioners, all parts
still available from Rover, or a kit from Gates/Continental etc about £110, straightforwaed job. No special tools needed, allow 3 hours. And this is agood engine, no recurring problems with these.

Yes they have - and I quote- with modifications to improve reliability. We will see.

I have a Rover 800 Coupe & it's a very reliable machine & SO have all the other Rovers i've owned (SD1s, P6s 800s) The crappiest cars i've owned where an Orion, Talbot Solara (or sumat), Sierra, Nova, & the worst was a Escort MKII I broke the gear box & had to start off in 2nd, it also used to just die for no apparent reason (once just after over taking an Artic) Bloody thing almost killed me :o :o :o

A certain mod assured me that the KV6 in my MGZT would blow up. I had it three years and ran it up to 105000 before I traded it and it still sounded great. Cam belts were an absolute killer though, £900 at an indie garage.

Yup, K series was good in its time - still not bad now compared to Ford Zetec and Vauxhall ECOTec - but never developed further to overcome its big reliability issue. Our friends at BMW weren't really interested in putting any money in to R&D.

The early 25's are much better built than the later ones. If you get a 2000 or early 2001, you get a better car, and one that out handles the awful later ones.

My old man had a '51 25 and paid hundreds having the HG done (at 60k) 'cause it was losing coolant... I swear it didn't actually have HGF though- no mayo, oil/water mixing etc etc. Alright little motor otherwise, not as solid as the '92 214 though. Nowhere near as many toys either- the 214 has leather, air-con, leccy sunroof, you name it! Some old dear must've paid a bleedin fortune for it! ;D

Depends on the spec. All those are standard items on some models in range. Didn't think the wedge 200 series had an AC option though :-/

next time your on the m42 go and have a look at the factory now, if you have ever been to longbridge before you will not believe its the same factory over 3/4 of it has disappeared(demolished) its only a very small part of it left, and i believe they have taken on something like 300 of the original workforce to produce chinese copies of the Mgf :(

Yeah, most of it gone. Good riddance imho, longbridge was always Rover's problem - they never escaped the 70s workforce mentality
-
so are they going to set up a new dealer network then?
If so they have their work cut out

Similar situation over at Ryton, I went past thre in November vast factory went past again in May nothing !! no buildings nothing :-/
-
Yeah i drove past ryton the other week and was suprised of no factory used to deliver containers of parts up from france most weeks 3 or so years ago
-
our new print factory in slough only exists because of that same 70s mentality. The old factory was in the centre of birmingham. Absalute mightmare by all accounts. How anybody expects a business to survive with that ball and chain round its ankle is beyond me.

jeez ryton as well? I spent years hauling new cars out of Longbridge and ryton for export sales when i was on the transporters, ten rovers or twelve 206s and i got paid for the loading of each car and the unloading of each car and the mileage i did taking them to the docks!!! ah the good old days!! loadsamoney!!! ;D

I used to own a car from that lot from the Chrysler period, mine was made at Linwood and was a 3 door hatch.
