When Dyson announced he was going to make an electric car from scratch, an image of Clive Sinclair jumped into my mind.

On the plus side it would be a V6 or V8 Dyson. That would have appealed to petrol heads.

Yes The Sinclair C5 was less of a 'bird puller' than a plastic pig. ;)

Yes, now you have the big boys involved there's less space for 'amateurs' particularly at the luxury end of the market where competition was always going to stiff. I'll be interested if Rivian can make its stick as I really like the idea of their pickup. https://rivian.com/r1t/ (https://rivian.com/r1t/)

Cannot see the market for the pickup. Maybe for transporting clay pigeons to a hurray henry shoot. The purchase price would put off farmers and builders and fishermen. Plus they get loads of dings and dents.

Just watched it on iplayer. The big problem is the price. Are the manufacturers milking the profits as well as covering development costs. The VAG executive thinking people had 90,000 to spend on a car!

If I was twenty , I would be quite excited about EVs

You haven't seen the number of Range Rovers, Velars, Porsches etc etc on the roads, then? People do have that sort of money to spend on a car.. and do.

Although I can count on one hand the number of 69 plate cars I've seen so far, and even 19 plate.. seems like 68 was the last good 'sales period' for car manufacturers in the UK.

He probably realised it would hit him for many billions just to get approvals

Fair point. Why sell cheap while you are just selling a few. The price will drop when the EV penetration is much higher.
