Title: So I went into Lidl.....
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 18 October 2019, 18:16:46
...... for a bag of apples....  ::)

...... and came out with a bag of Cox's ......... and a cordless Dremel!  :D

I've no idea when or what I'll use it for, but I've always wanted one and at £16.99 it seemed rude not too!  :)

Gotta love Lidl!  :y

Came out of Lidl with an impulse purchase 1.2 kva inverter generator for £140 earlier in the year.

Not quite as quiet as the Honda one I had my eye on, but not £900 either. :o

Had to put a mains filter on the output too, but it's done 3 24 hour radio contests this year and not missed a beat. :y

We flew home from holiday and whilst driving back from airport stopped at a Lidl store for some milk and bread.
This was one of the new generation stores that are being rolled out over here and are huge....
Anyway, came out with a litre of semi skimmed a loaf of toasty bread and €350 worth of portable scaffolding......
She went 'kin mental three weeks later when she discovered it still unwrapped in my workshop , still is.
I get bored when in there now as I seem to have bought everything .

I've always found the cheap ones to be a bit crap TBH.  The single exception to that was a Woolworths one that a mate bought me for xmas probably 30yrs ago, that was fantastic, and arguably more controllable than the Dremel I have now.  Shame it was in the garage :(

Mine does see a lot of use though.

My one piece of advice is that the 10,000,000 piece accessory sets for £15 from all the usual shite places are utter wank. Buy decent quality accessories.  The single exception was the old Maplins accessory sets, which were good value and performed reasonable.

genuine Dremels are underpowered, with short lived bearings. They are very light duty tools for use on small jobs on soft materials.

Cheap copies are even worse.

Cordless ones are an utter waste of money.

The accessories follow a similar pattern.

But having one might help you out of a problem occasionally, so it's worth having one.

That's different to my old one, where the PSU was separate and connected via a decent length curly cord, making the tool itself light and easy to get it at funny angles.

Well, I wouldn't build a house with it, or build a kit car from lumps of metal.

But mine gets a pretty good hammering - on generally soft materials though - in my many hobbies :)

That's funny mine's a Woolies one, too! Little belter, had it about 15+ years now, done everything from Airfix kits to car bodywork.

Had one beforehand from the Sunday Market, which lasted less time than it took to type this sentence, spent a little more on the Woolworths one and never had issue - only downside is I can't buy another when it finally does go pop
