Title: Smart motorways to be reviewed
Post by: Varche on 24 October 2019, 17:43:43
I remember us having a thread on Smart motorways some time ago .

Seems there has been too many deaths on the hard shoulder that doesn't exist.

Anyone else feel vulnerable driving on a motorway without a hard shoulder?

I didn't think they were being reviewed, I thought it was agreed no more would be built.

It's common knowledge that a fair percentage of drivers are stupid.

What build an extra lane each way?

They are dangerous and are a ridiculous policy that is only being followed to save money and the need to build the extra standard motorway lanes actually required.

When the policy was first announced I know what senior police traffic officers thought of it, and their fears, and mine, have been proved right with an 8% increase in motorway deaths. For the emergency services they are a real problem. Motorway hard shoulders, that are essential for driver safety, and for the rapid movement of emergency vehicles, may be dangerous anyway, but to remove them is utter madness.

All just to save money >:( >:(

In order to build a smart motorway, cutting my journey to Liverpool by minutes, the roadworks on the M62 have succeeded in making it 15-20 minutes longer.
Magic roadworks, with no actual work going on.

Funnily enough, we were just saying the same re the M23... A two year cluster opps rendered irrelevant.  ::) :-X

I've endured years of it working at an office a stone's throw from the M3. Now that's over, I'm enduring it working in an office a stone's throw from the M27. ::)
