Title: Battery losing charge
Post by: stuvaux on 13 November 2019, 20:34:09
Hi,

My Omega needed jump starting last week. I thought it may be a one off but the next day it wouldn't start again so i replaced the battery. Now the same thing happened today with the new battery. Managed to jump start it with a booster and it has started fine the couple of times I have started it today.
It seemed to definitely be a battery issue but now I'm not so sure. Is there anything obvious to look for that may be draining the charge?

Thanks,

Stu

Great thank you, will give that all a try tomorrow. I had only done the basic voltage checks  :-\

Although many new batteries come partially charged, it is always a good idea to fully charge a new battery before use - preferably with a 'smart' charger rather than a standard charger. When a battery is very low, it isn't a good idea to use the alternator effectively as a charger; they should be charged to capacity using a smart charger, and when fully charged the alternator can take over when in use on the car.
Every Omega I have owned always seemed to have a greater than normal battery drain when not in use. By this I means periods of several weeks. There never seems to be any fault with them; it just seems to be a characteristic that the battery needs regular 'top ups' when not in regular use.
