Both SWMBO & myself have been caught speeding so we are attending a speed awareness course together, I've done one before must be a good 10 years ago both caught on the same camera I was doing 37MPH & wifey 41MPH .
£90 each but no points bargain 😃😄😆

Naughty and naughty! ;D

beat by a girly ::)
which one of you is doing the driving speeding to the speed awareness course ;D

Will be me, wifey is an excellent driver but I don't like being driven unless I'm tired, she was caught in the old Terracan & I was in the Range Rover I spotted the camera at the last moment & braked 42mph & over you don't get the option of the course so she was lucky.

nice day out together ;D
-
No elderly relatives you can palm the points off on ;D

Complete waste of time, but it adds to someone's coffers. We all know what we should have been doing, but were caught going faster. But it does surprise me how clueless some of our fellow road users are re speeds & general road markings .... I did one a few months back - 49 IIRC in a 40

Easy targets was it dangerous in my opinion no, just a licence to print money will air my views on the course .

You're brighter than that ;)
Suck it up and be grateful, there'll be enough dickheads there :y

As Al says, just suck it up. There's a chance you'll 'fail' the course if you're too vocal ;) ;)
-
IIRC, you can't go on the course if you've done one in the last three years. My three years was up in April. Not that I'm planning on
getting caught speeding, you understand.

I went to the RNAS Yeovilton museum to get a ticket for Air Day. I pitched up about 9AM on the way to work, and on approaching the entrance steps I was ushered into a downstairs room (the shop is upstairs).
To start with I couldn't work out what was going on, and then it dawned on me when they started asking me for my name and driving license. I played along for a while and then let go with a rant about it all being for money, how most of the people in the room were being done for £100 in nonsense speed limits with no-one hurt and it was all just a scam.
I was quite enjoying myself when the staff instructed me to leave and that I had failed the course, and would now be getting 3 points and a fine. When finally told them my name, surprise surprise it wasn't on the list. Their faces were a picture when I told them I wasn't on the course and I'd only come for an air-day ticket :D
Anyway the only thing I learnt that day was that the museum shop doesn't open till 10AM. ::)
-
Some idiot on my course told everyone that he could go faster because his van had "Turbo brakes" - he was the t**t who kept us back by arguing the toss with the instructors >:( just shut the fek up and go home sooner

Polite & to the point if they don't like it tough.

I was making quick progress on swmbo`s Triumph up the Chichester bypass early morning
Noticed a dark colour beemer bearing down on me & he was hammering it.
Rolled off the throttle & quickly moved over, looked to my right & plod gave me thumbs up
who ever was driving looked totally relaxed as he piled on the power 8)

Good luck with that... :-X

exactly. You knew you were speeding, and points/whatever are the consequence if you get caught.

Thanks for your good luck comment but no luck needed I've been on enough government ( Police & HMPS courses) and know exactly how to leave " constructive feedback"

I learnt on mine that 90% of the attendees really need to retake their test. And that mobile phones should be banned from any driver under the age of 25, as clearly the temptation to idiot or arsebook is too much.

.
I think that the penalty for phone use is far too lenient, should be a ban a very hefty fine & confiscation of vehicle there is absolutely no need to use one whilst driving.

Confiscation of the 'phone, and destruction of all the contacts/data on it would be a better deterrent/punishment.

You can't hold a conversation with someone while you're diving? ??? There are far more possible distractions, IMHO, in a car than using a phone behind the wheel.

For most people this is very difficult as you tend to drown when you remove your regulator, hence the sign language. :) :-* ;D

Can't really see where diving comes into the equation, but yes probably extremely difficult hand signals are normally the answer, back to driving through only a fool would argue that it is okay to use a phone when driving .
-
Agreed that phone useage is a no-no[I totally ignore mine when driving until reaching destination or a "comfort break" halt]problem as ever is with enforcement.Plus manufacturers are busy sticking those stupid screen things to the dash that you have to scroll through to access various functions-surely these are as distracting if not more so?

Driving .....
What's the phone being used for? I still can't see the difference between talking to a passenger & talking to someone somewhere else. Am I allowed to use the factory hands free in my cars?
It's people trying to text while driving and sorting sat navs that are stuck to the screen directly in front on them.
-
Not to mention those that aren't paying any attention to their speed... ::)

I think there's a touché in there somewhere ;D

I still can't see the difference between talking to a passenger & talking to someone somewhere else.
The big difference is that a passenger is aware of what is happening on the road and stops talking when you need to pay more attention. Someone on the phone doesn't.
Even using a hands free phone is somewhat similar to being on the alcohol limit.
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
In nearly nine years of taxi driving I never encountered that...
In twenty four years of private driving it is unusual to say the least.

My Mum doesn't ... she Just talks & talks & talks & talks ... even when you tell/ask her to shhh! a minute
Someone on the phone doesn't.
How about tell them?

Could you please substantiate your comment.
I will substantiate my comment with two scientific papers which examined the issue.
Mobile phone use and drink driving
The comparison of mobile phones with alcohol impairment continues to attract researchers because of the already established thresholds and risks for alcohol impairment. In 2002, a study by the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK found that while driving while intoxicated is clearly impaired, certain aspects of driving performance are even more impaired by mobile phone use. Burns, P. C., Parkes, A., Burton, S., Smith, R. K., & Burch, D. (2002). How dangerous is driving with a mobile phone? Benchmarking the impairment to alcohol. Crowthorne.: Transport Research Laboratory.
A similar study in 2006 that mobile-phone drivers may exhibit greater impairments than intoxicated drivers. Strayer, D. L., Drews, F. A., & Crouch, D. J. (2006). A comparison of the cell phone driver and the drunk driver. Human factors, 48, 381-391.

We digress...
Point is, you can be distracted by nothing just as much as anything... If this wasn't the case, Rangie wouldn't be going on a course for significantly exceeding the speed limit. Likewise his better half ::)
Also both of those surveys are well out of date. But let's not have any of that get in the way of a good wind up... Unless of course, you happen to be running their course...
I would probably pay £90 to watch that...

No ....
Lies, damned lies & statistics.
Well I guess I have to choose who to believe.
Should I believe a group of scientists all probably educated to doctoral level who were commissioned by the UK Transport and Road Research Laboratory to do some research and who wrote a peer reviewed report on their findings.
Or should I choose to believe you, who probably has no more that a pass in CSE Woodwork to your name? Someone who has not read the reports but says they are rubbish. Someone who cannot enter into a discussion about the subject because he has absolutely no knowledge of the subject and because he lacks the capability to think logically so all he can do is cuss and say clichés (look it up) like "Lies, damned lies & (it's spelled AND) statistics" as though that actually means something.
