Any advice on tracing someone’s past. A friend recently went to an open day at a local cemetery, (he is part of the god squad) and came across a grave in the name of Ivor Bueb, turns out he was twice Le Mans winner in 1955 & 1957. Have read about his motor racing history, but would like to know a bit more about how he lived his early life, where he lived & so on, local authorities in east & south London are as much use as a cat flap on a submarine so any ideas where to go next?

Googling his name brings up quite a bit of info about him, but I assume you've already done that.

Googled the poor sod to death, some records say he was born in saf London others say east London but at some time he lived east of the crapital, had a garage in Gloucester and was Wales greatest racing driver known as Ivor the driver

Hmm that will be the D type Jaguars then with the disc brakes, and the 1955 Was the worse racing accident ever with over 80 killed when a car plummeted into the crowd :-[
