In the mid '80s I bought an Airfix 1/18th model of a 6.6 turbo Firebird and I still have it in a display case in my front room.I suppose it's the closest I'll ever get to owning one. To me they lost it big time when they went to the KITT shape.

KITT......the car of the future today. :y

The advanced 'voice technology' was used in the  world-beating Austin Maestro. ::)

Ive never seen the attraction of any American cars. Only good thing about any of them was the noise.

Yep, my mate had one. It kept badgering him for years about things that clearly weren't a problem, like "low fuel level" when he'd just filled up. Then it started bleating about a brake problem and, naturally, he ignored it. A couple of weeks later his brakes failed. ;D

Oh I don't know, If I didn't have to pay my own fuel bills, a crown Vic seems like the ultimate daily driver.

I like the Dodge Ram but feel that it needs the 8 litre V10 under the 'hood' but not sure I'd want to pick up the fuel bill ... besides, American cars' interiors could be better  ;)

Have to agree a lot of their interiors do seem to be on the "cheap and nasty" side of the spectrum.I've looked at quite a few Trans-Ams at car shows and they've all[regardless of engine size]had speedometers that only read to 100mph ???

The tyre (or tires, if you are a yank) top out at 80 MPH. :)

didn't they go through a phase of speedos just going up to 85mph?

I had a Grand Marquis for a while, which is the same car with an even tackier interior. A V6 Scorpio is a much better car in every way, unless red vinyl and chrome plated plastic is important to you.

The Chevy Silverado would be my choice of Yank truck.  :y

the 5.9V8 does everything just as well.

Proper working Rams have a Cummins diesel. Makes the V10 seem like a 1.0l triple.

They are impressive pieces of kit. According to their website the 2019 has a 2 ton payload and can tow close to 16 ton  :o.

Having had the displeasure of a few Scorpios (including nearly buying one), I really am struggling to see how even a yank wank tank is worse :o

it's slightly bigger, with much less space inside.
The FI 5.0l V8 gives similar performance, but less economy.
Handling: the US Ford makes a Scorpio feel like a Lotus.
Interior: mine was a white car with a red velour interior. What wasn't velour was either red plastic or chrome plated plastic. The seats have as much support as an empty cheap bin bag. None of it fits very well. Lower spec cars trade the velour for less pleasant materials :o

I bought it cheap, fixed the blown headgasket, run it around for a couple of months and made 100% profit when I couldn't put up with it any longer.

Chevy Caprice and Dodge Monaco equivalents are similarly awful.

a mild small block V8 is a lovely thing until you try a proper straight six.......

Had several straight 6s in no way whatsoever are they better than a V8.

One of my mates restores American cars, with Pontiacs, Mustangs and Plymouths being his main choice. He runs them for a bit and then sells them and starts again. One night after a few bevvies he decided to leave the Trans Am at ours and get a taxi home, with me returning it the next day. Driving a left hooker over here is challenging as when you want to overtake you either have to hang right back and then go for it or, stick two thirds of the car on the wrong side of the road to see if it's clear to go.  ::) It made all the right noises but was in no way fast.
Also, remember to always have a passenger with you, as you feel rather silly having to reverse through Maccy D's drive-through and reversing in to a car park so that you can reach the ticket.  ::)

Or buy one with enough torque that it will safely creep in D from the passenger seat :D

I genuinely, hand on heart have not seen that, but then I haven't watched Clarkson for many many years. I stopped watching Top Gear (I know he isn't on it now) many years ago when he made the show all about him, which I thought spoilt it. I do know that it was before I joined the forum (around 2010 I believe), as when I joined up someone posted about 'Top Gear is on tonight' and I asked if it had improved or was it still all about Clarkson and a guy called NickBat or similar had a pop at me.   ;D

I tried to find it on the Tube of You but failed  :-\.

Apparently the lad he spoke to had a script to say & wouldn't shut up while Clarkson said his bit to camera  ;D

Drove a Ford Explorer when they first came out over here, put it in D on level ground handbrake off and with both feet away from the pedals it would hit 25mph in less than 100yds :o
