does the screw in piston type of caliper self adjust after new pads are replaced. i imagine they must, but having never had a sar with those type of calipers not sure. :-\

No, they need to be wound in when fitting new pads. Unless it's a very modern car, where you can tell them to retract from the obd socket.

Screw in front pistons?
Only encountered these on the rears and then when the caliper doubles as the handbrake mechanism :-\
That notwithstanding, winds the piston home swap the pads out and simply press thee brake pedal to reset the caliper/pads ;)

Citroen front calipers are wind back on some models that utilise front calipers for hand/ emergency brake,Bx ,xantiia and C5 to name three

But because they are the handbrake, not particularly because they are on the front. ;)
