Hi gays, I mean guys 😃 hope you’re all well 😘😘😘
So cars been slow to come up to temp. for a few weeks. Sometimes when on the motorway the temp will drop right down. I assumed this was thermostat and I’ve been meaning to do it but just haven’t had time.
Anyway last couple of days the cars gone over 100 in to the red 😖 I wasn’t in a position to stop so carried on to where I could pull over ASAP. However cooling fan kicked in and it came right down to normal. It’s since done this twice more today.
I am fairly certain I needed a stat before the overheating happened but do we think this is also the stat causing this?

Well if you've been meaning to change it, you'd best crack on, have you got a spare transfer pipe and seals... And no I haven't :'(

No transfer pipe sadly. But last time I changed it I only used silicone grease so hopefully it’ll come apart. If not I’ll have to get a new one 😩

Car all stripped down tonight. Only took an hour to get stat and transfer pipe out. Very pleased with that....
Not so pleased about a couple of other things. Twelve bolts that hold sandwich plate in. Three of the bolts have come out with the threads from the head 😩😩😩 I’ve no idea why this has happened. They weren’t over tightened. Nightmare.
On the plus side the transfer pipe popped right off. And the B bolt came out no drama.

What’s forum consensus on this?
In the holes where the threads are fubar’d there’s still a little bit of thread in each hole where the bolt will grip. Can I get away with threading them in and nipping them up? Bearing in mind it’s got 9 other bolts holding it. Or would you helicoil?
The time I get home tomorrow night is in OOFs hands 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I would probably use some gap filling Loctite on the ones you have.
Removing the B bolt isn't th2 issue, it's aligning the various brackets it goes through to refit the thing.

Do you mean the brass inserts in the inlet divider or from the heads themselves :-\

If you think you can drill the holes out without getting metal places it shouldn't be, I'd helicoil.
A hint that someone gave to me after I'd done the job was, if the hole is deep enough, stick 2 helicoils in there.

Well job completed today. Were dead at work so boss let me take half day holiday so I cracked on.
So got stat in then transfer pipe (lined up no problem-don’t know what the fuss is all about ;D) anyway on to sandwich plate. cleaned all twelve bolts with wire wheel and threaded them all in gently by hand. Ten of the bolts including one I thought would struggle all accepted a torque of 20nm. The last two... one threaded in but felt loose. Put a little blue loctite on and it tightened up and I left it be. Final one was simply shagged.... I decided to leave it out. Car runs great 👍👍👍 if it becomes an issue in future I’ll address it but I think 11 bolts holding it in will be fine 👍
After bleeding coolant and checking for leaks and driving home the temps acting exactly as it should but of course will monitor 👍
A word on the B bolt. One thing I think really helped was instead of just loosening pas reservoir I took a step further and took out the rubber hose from reservoir to pas pump. I also removed upper radiator hose instead of just easing it out of the way. Ok I had to put those things back and refill power steering but it made the job a lot easier........ only imo of course 👍👍👍

Also took the opportunity to get a bit of penetration 🍆 fluid on the fitting going in to power steering pump as that’s my next job. I was going to bash stat and pump out in one go but after issue with threads I just wanted to get it all back together and ensure it was ok.
However had a good look round the pas pump for leaks. Found it coming right out of the pump! It’s been leaking a while!!! :-[ So be glad to change that and then touch wood I’ll have sorted all my leaks!

But at least we can do our own work to our old sheds, can't do F all to modern stuff. :'( :'(

That is true mate. Our bosses merc has got water leak in to the boot. It’s nackered the central locking module thingy. Found after breaking in to the boot. Two terminals have rotted away. New unit..... £850 plus vat 🥴
