Title: Brake Light Bulb Check
Post by: amba on 10 January 2020, 14:38:45
Odd one this,any pointers  ?
Always brake light check comes on with ignition and goes out once brake pedal is pressed.
Today Im getting a brake bulb check come up every so often when I brake.
Checked both bulbs and 1 had failed ..great I thought and replaced it with another, but still getting the same icon appear.
Top brake light works but both on rear wings dont.
Bit puzzled as neither bulb is blown ..have checked fuse #2 and all sound there aswell

I'd be checking for good clean contacts in the bulb holders and the loom to the light units first  :). After that .... no idea  ??? And decent quality bulbs.

12 volts is supplied to the relevant terminal on the base of the lamp/bulb and earths out on the side of the base of the bulb

My question was whether they were wired in series or parallel, hence a loose/broken wire on one side would knock out both.

I suspect they are as neither worked and both bulbs were intact and worked when I pushed the broken bit of wire back against the bit it had broken off.

Strange really as you would of expected 1 to stay working more as a safety feature but who knows electrikery

Light loom runs down the left sill to the left tail lights/bootlid/tailgate then across the rear boot frame to the right. ;)

All fixed I,m glad to say...existing plug cut off loom.Made new section of wiring loom and joined back together soldered and heat shrunk.Doesnt look perfect but will probably only ever be seen by me ...important thing is both wing brake lights now work again.
