As advised changed lighting switch remained same Changed indicator stalk same problem lights stay on,has anybody experienced this problem
and solved it,i would love to hear from them.MOT in a few weeks time so starting to worry. Thanks in advance

That lot only leaves an earthing issue.
-
I'd drop the fuse box under the dash and whilst at pos. 1 flex all it's connections and see what happens.
-
I have this feeling that if you use a Vectra light switch in an Omega, it does something like this. Make sure you've got the right part number.
Granted, it would have always been like this, so possibly not likely.
-
Gentlemen,I have tried all you have suggested,switch,light,fuse layout,indicator stalk,anything else i can eliminate,thank you
-
do you mean the dash indicator lights only are behaving abnormally only or is it the actual lights themselves
as dg says check all earth connections. there are some under the battery but not sure where the dash ones will be.
if its just the dash try pressing the instrument cluster .it gets its connection from a fixed socket behind it and can have a bad connection/ seating especially if someones had it out.

or was any work just done to anything on the car just before this happened

Hello gentlemen,Only work i know of prior to fault a brand new alternator was installed,i have checked all the earths, near battery, engine main earth, offside
light, indicator, rear fog lights,i have removed all the relays relevant to the lights and when i put and turn ignition on they come straight on .The only thing
a have not tried is the removal of the main cluster. My question if i remove the cluster what would i expect to see /find to light up only these 3 lights
i cannot find a common denominator that effects these 3.When i get it out what should i be looking for(i have never removed one)Much obliged
-
still not 100% clear here. are you talking about the dash warning lights or actual lights on the outside . you say the lights come on even with relays all removed so guessing you mean dashboard which would point to a dashboard earthing issue ?
-
Hello there,As explained in other post electrical problem it is dash warning lights, main beam, right indicator, rear fog lights only.
When i put main beam on dash light goes out, when i use indicator light goes out, when i switch on rear fog light goes out.
I removed the appropriate relays switched on ignition dash lights remained on,the cluster is the thing that has not been changed
i have never removed one so what can i expect to see.....sorry to be such a pain but this is annoying as well as intriguing ....thank you

So if i understand you correctly, all the exterior lights on the car actually works as they should, your problem is only the instrument cluster lights? If so that would indicate either bad/missing earth to the instrument cluster or a faulty instrument cluster. Easily removed by first pulling out the two centre air vents. This reveals two screws that hold the airvent frame in place. Remove this and one screw holding the instrument will be revealed. Turning steering wheel 90 degrees to each side reveals two screws facing the driver that holds the top half of the steering coloumn cover in place. Remove this and the second screw holding instrument in place can be seen. Remove the two screws holding instrument and pull it out fra computer side. Be careful to disconnect computer wiring once accesible and dont turn ignition on with instrument disconnected.
Once instrument is removed you should be able to check if the earth cable for it has a good earth. If thats ok then i would assume the instrument is in need of repair/replacement.

thats clarified things a little. so actual car lights are ok .
have you initially tried pressing the instrument panel or tapping it to see if anything changes ?
-
I have tried shoving on cluster, tapping at various positions, but to no avail any variation.I will try over the next couple of days and get the cluster
out and inspected.......then whats left ignition switch or loom.Much appreciated

Gentlemen,I have solved the problem, it was the cluster as suggested,a broken track on plinth, but i do not know how but one side of the copper track
was touching a resistor thus affecting other circuits(it had curled round resistor leg)I pieced it out checked everything replaced and back to normal.
Thank you all for your help and guideance

no problem thats what were all here for .!
and nice to see someone come back after fault is solved and let us know the outcome. sometimes we help people with ideas and suggestions then hear nothing !
much appreciated

That's a great result and well spotted.
Chasing electrical faults can be a minefield but it always pays to check the basics first and so satisfying when you can identify a simple and obvious defect. Well done.
