Bro in law has a few month old Mitsubishi Mirage. Its got he fancy touchscreen nav doodah that he's keen to keep. However he says the sound quality from the speakers is dire.
I've recommended he starts with a set of new speakers and assesses what effect that has. I fear the standard HU will not be powerful enough to run the new speakers. In which case... Can you add an amplifier to a standard head unit? I've only ever fiddled with aftermarket kit...
Trying to dig out specs for the HU is a bit tricky too...

Fit 1 or 2 of these with a decent 2 or 4 channel amplifier and speakers :y

Depending on how much you want to spend ........
Alpine and Kenwood make a pretty good 50 watt per channel amp which is not much bigger then a large box of matches and will fit easily behind the dash :y
Just use upgraded coax speakers with the above.
OR
Fit a larger amp in the boot and use 2 way components front and back :y

Generally the standard fit speakers are pretty good (ours are way over speced for the base cars), its the amps that are the weak link.
Does the standard system have built in amps or external?
