Title: Planning Permission
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 14 March 2020, 14:06:09
I went to see a house yesterday and the back garden was like a bomb site.  The agent told me that there was planning permission for a double story extension and they'd put the foundations in, but didn't get any further.  The couple who own the property are going their separate ways so whether the project stalled due to their personal issues or they made a start and left it so the PP didn't lapse I don't know.  :-\

My initial thoughts were to fill it all in and lay a patio over it all, but since then I've looked at the plans and they look really good.  :y  I guess that laying a patio over the site would probably mean that the PP would lapse, so I was thinking about a deck instead as that would be a temporary structure?  :-\

Get this though..... The planning permission was granted in September 2007!   Even though they've made a start, can that PP still be valid after all that time?  ???

Obviously I need to investigate further, but I'd appreciate any thoughts from the OOFerrati please.  :)  TIA!  :y

extension has started as far as the permission goes , though if there is going to be a delay ,up to damp proof course is the norm .
you would have to check the footings where inspected though  :y

Check with the local planning department , a little bit of work now could save a lot of hassle later

I often get stuff thats been unfinished for years,
one guy finished a bungalow recently he started in 1975

as long as the founds were inspected and recorded as such by BC your planning is started,
however the planning may not transfer from them to you, check first.

I've now found out that the current owners bought the house in 2010, 3 years after planning was granted.  It seems a bit strange as the original application was refused and new different plans were submitted and passed.  So they went to some effort to secure their PP, but then seemingly didn't follow through, and maybe the current owners have lived with the bombsite for 10 years...  :-\

When and who started the work for the extension I don't know yet, so I'll phone the planning dept on Monday to see what I can find out.  :y
