Title: Beware RANT - DVLA Barstewards
Post by: Markie on 29 August 2008, 15:28:30
So where do i stand >:(

Ive made a trip to my local DVLA office at my expense - nearly £10 in fuel and parking.

DVLA are taking wildcat industrial action today but checking website and calling Glasgow office confirmed they were soldiering on.

Got there as one of the staff posted a notice on the door saying they werre closing early to re open on monday.

Now today was my last day to SORN wifes omega before losing another month. This meant due to their action i will recieve £15 less on Monday, not to mention my costs ( which i know i will never recover)

I utterly despise anyone that takes cowardly lazy action like this to get a point over re conditions or pay.

Bosses dont care and are not infulenced by bloody socialist activists, the "activists" i call them disruptive memebrs of staff ( were no wheere to be seen) get a day off and Joe Punter gets shafted!!

This action has made the DVLA and the Goverment more money as they can duck out of repaying. They are effectivley blackmailing their customers, who cant in turn do much as theres no competition to go to.

Strikers should be sacked. End of.

So strong words on Monday - unfortunately i doubt i will get much of a response.

HJad this discussion before with them im afraid Mark, they wont pay for months unused unless the disc is received prior to the start of the month - hence the trip to town.

Nope  :( all they do is return the disc for Swansea to pay out. One of the DVLA offices must be in posession of the disc prior to month start.

Tried to call the DVLA but they arent even accepting calls into Swansea now.

What gets me is this has been set today to make maximum disruption to the PUBLIC as well as give them a long weekend.

All those people that may have been going in late to sort documentation for a new car this weekend as well  >:(

Are you sure, the form states that the form must be POSTED before the first day of the month.

I have done this before and they based it on the post mark.

Plus, what have you to loose!

I'm sure I've read on the Website that the post date is what matters, but IIRC, I get lots of mail nowadays where the date of posting isn't shown on the franking.

I would say your correct - if your car is out and about on the public highways not (or not properly) showing a valid tax disc you run the risk....

iirc ( from way back and things have probably changed since then) not having tax and not showing a valid disc are two different offences -- but I stand to be corrected by "them as knows"  :-?

They are different, but only recently as it is only recently that you could have taxed your car without getting a disk, unless you used the post, in which case most peeps would leave extra time.
