Title: In laws volvo c70 cutting out.
Post by: feeutfo on 26 August 2008, 21:19:15
110k on the clock and its cutting out and playing up.
Flat batterys and the car returned with the key stuck in the ignition problems aside. The main thing is the cutting out off the throttle  and emissions light on. Its worrying them alot. To me its traditional icv cleaning and breathers probably. But volvo to be fair are talking about doing the work for free, sorting out the tickover and software update, but also have found that the cam belt is due£ 500 all in(well after the free work was agreed tho). I suggested to get the problems sorted first and save complicting the issue, sort the service later as its not due until mid sept. Anybody know about the alleged known issuse with this model? Apparantly the c70 has been on watchdog! Cheers

Me Mam has a C70 and the lambda has gone several times.  Not sure why as I have been abroad for a while but it could be somewhere to start

Update,Cam belt done by volvo,£230. They also cleaned the ETM as listed below in grumpys link.

SolutionsThere are a number of possible solutions:

the Electronic Throttle Module can be cleaned and refitted
the Electronic Throttle Module can be replaced by a new on
the Electronic Throttle System can receive a software upgrade:
From April 2006 a software upgrade will be available for affected cars to improve the performance of the ETS. This software will be progressively available over a few months, due to the number of different ETS/engine combinations.

Cleaning had no effect, the module already had the latest software, they recomended replacement module...at a cost of £300. >:(

I wondered about a re con from bba re man, they dont list the part and anyway, presumably the part will have to be re programmed by volvo again??

I also wondered, if it has the latest software, that it has been worked on before by volvo. If so clearly not to any lasting effect.

This module and throttle set up appears on several cars in the volvo range. :-/
