Can anyone tell me how many gears the Auto box has in the 2003 2.2 Petrol?
Haynes Manual says 4 but it feels to me like it changes up 4 times so that would be a 5 speed!
Thanks

The ONLY 5 speed auto Omega is the semi skimmed 2.5DTi which was left hand drive only. And was fitted with a ZF box rather than a GM one.
;)

Yep, four forwardgears, plus torque converter lock up , which feels like a gearchange.

GM 5L40-E surely. Made in France. Also used in Cadillac CTS.

All Vauxhall Omegas are 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual. Nothing else was offered.
As others said, you are likely feeling the TC lockup in top, which is a sure sign you are driving too sedately ;D

That clears it up!
Thanks everyone, at least I know what's what now and I had a read about lock up converters, which are interesting and quite a clever thing!
As ever, competent advice and information, this forum is brilliant because you all make it that way!
Thanks again

The Omega B four speed auto boxes have the lock-up on third gear as well as fourth.
I find that the lock-up operation is more noticeable when using cruise control.
