Title: Silly IT question?
Post by: Bigron on 17 May 2020, 16:31:23
I want to use an ethernet splitter to run two  computers from one feed, but the instructions say no, I can't. Why not? Is there a clash?
I know that I have a spare ethernet output on the router, but at the moment it isn't convenient to run a long cable upstairs to the computers and the wi-fi, as TB says, is total shite lately!

Ron.

Plug your existing single cable feed to the router into an ethernet switch. That will give you extra ports. You can then plug your computer, laptop, TV, printer or whatever into it's own port on the switch. Obviously the bandwidth capacity of the single cable to the router is the limiting factor and it's shared across all the ports on the switch. Did this a couple of months ago here.

Like with most things ebay, that's overpriced for such a slow device.  But it'll do the job if its only to browse the tinterweb thingy

Is there something better to run a smart tv and say a laptop off the end of an ethernet cable?

Ron,,, don't use a Brackley address, it'll never arrive, all ebay delivery get lost around that area. :)
