A warning to all: Avoid using Aldi at the moment if you can.
I've just got back from a truly awful shopping trip there.
Having queued up, patiently and socially distancing, as I neared the entrance a shop worker clipped a carabena onto the belt loop of my jeans, my perplexed expression must have said it all as she explained that whilst people are distancing in the queue outside, they aren't distancing once inside the store.
So what some Donut has dreamt up is to rope 6 or so customers together with 2m of rope between each of us WTAF.
Well these are strange times and with the threat of a second wave of infection I thought I'd best not complain and just tow the line (so to speak).
I'm telling you now, what an absolutely idiotic idea this is. We've negotiated our way in to the store, some with trolleys and others trying to grab a basket before the berserk conga line drags them away.
I was near the middle of the rope picking up some veg, the woman at the front, who was trussed up like a kid in a harness was trying to drag the whole line to the apples and the bloke at the back trying to pull the other way to get his hands on last weeks courgettes which were now this weeks courgette offer.
It was like tug-of-war for the deranged.
It's embarrassing to say, but I lost it, started ranting and raving about the rope and how the hell are people meant to shop like this, I went to unclip the carabena which miraculously brought the attention of the staff who told me I'd be asked to leave the shop if I uncliped. "FFS we're not rock climbing, we're trying to buy cheese" are words which I'll carry with me to my grave.
Strangely this outburst had the effect of bringing our train together as a team.
We carried on now with lots of communication, people passing stuff along the line to other to fill their baskets. Now I know passing things to one another could spread the infection as much as person to person contact but I honestly think if we hadn't of done, I'd still be there now.
As we started along the aisle I generally refer to as "biscuits and creosote", it was clear from the start that all was not well in the adjacent aisle. As far as I could tell there had been 2 trains of people and a lady in the middle of one chain had ducked under the other to get her hands on a pop-art cat bed. The tangle had resulted in a multi-pedestran pile up in which the epicentre resembled the dirty Durga, it wasn't clear how long they'd been there but one old chap was trying to free himself by feverishly sawing at the rope with his house keys.
We navigated the remaining aisles without major trauma, other than having to rescue Doreen (2nd in line) after she fell in the chest freezer trying to reach the last beef Wellington. We were individually unclipped prior to the till, at which point any cameradery we'd had quickly evaporated as everyone scrambled for the first available till.
With the ordeal still impeding rational thought, it was a welcome and familiar sight to have the check out throw all my shopping on the floor in the normal 1000mph fashion. I really did not appreciate being strung along like that, but I hope you did. 😝

I'd sue 'em for wrongful imprisonment. ;)

Train crash.
It would surely be better to use chains and leg manacles!

Just shop in a large Sainsbury's!
They are a dream to shop in, with complete control on social distancing, absolute control of the numbers entering the store (no queuing now though at many times of the day), very easy picking from a complete range of product, and as I use Smart Shop, I fill my trolley once, pay by card, walk out without any interaction with another human being unless I want to ask questions!!
This arrange should last forever in my opinion in all Sainsbury's 8) 8) :D :D ;)
PS Our local Aldi and Lidl, that I never shop in, are very small compared to Sainsbury's and Tesco Extra and have queues outside for most of the day for a limited range of product inside. ::)

You're lucky Lizzie, my local Sainsbury is total shite.

My local Sainsburys is so big I have to take a flask and sandwiches. Swmbo can spend many hours at a time in there.
She is missing it so very badly at the moment.

Towing on a rope is dangerous if you don't brake in time ;) reducing the 2 metre minimum safe distance :o
you need fitting with a rigid bar
(https://www.dhresource.com/0x0/f2/albu/g8/M01/DE/C3/rBVaV11s8CaAX6vPAAHwjXNvkRA369.jpg)
most off the shelf ones are only 1.8 metres though ,so you will need to shop around :P
-
You've not seen TB with a tow pole have you? ;D
-
I'm going to go there, and just stop, and have fun,, unless I'm attached to a couple of fit laydees,, hello ding boing...
Also is it April the 1st :D

Out for some exercise today and I passed the local Aldi where they were queueing down the side of the building and at the head of the queue was a teenager sat on his pushbike!! He was obviously ready for a quick sprint round the aisles :D
-
I can see no sane reason why anyone would shop at Aldi/Lidl. Mix with the great unwashed, and queue forever to pay for it. Then still even up at Tesco, because Lidl/Aldi sell SFA.

Pre-lockdown I was doing most of my Shopping in Lidl, in Uttoxeter. A fine shop, frequented and staffed by normal.people. products are decent, not too much choice, but enough. Fresh sea bass is decently priced. A whole goose not expensive.
During the lockdown we are shopping in Waitrose Formby
Because doing the mother in laws shopping and they have particular requirements and needs. Costing US twice as much. Fish is particularly overpriced. And every other customer is over 80 and should be at home avoiding risk.
-
Swmbo had some lamb shanks from Waitrpse last week. They were expensive and crap. Wouldnt shop there again.

And I had some fillet steak. Almost as good as Aldi and cooked to perfection. They were a present from.the in laws.
-
Thank you for a really good belly laugh. ;D ;D ;D
-
And I had Lobster and Caviar. On toast. For breakfast. Because I can. ::)
-
We don't go shopping at all now & it's great ! Everything delivered to our door + we're spending less by not picking up items we don't really need ..😃

They have some good offers on tools :y

And there's me with a carefully weighed out bowl of bitesized shredded wheat, skimmed milk and a cup.of decaffeinated coffee.
Still started lockdown at 15 stone. Now 13 stone 3 lbs

anyone who has never towed a car would be better using a rope. Rigid poles can easily do a lot of damage to both cars, especially under braking; rope will just snap, which is what you want if something goes badly wrong. It's been twenty years but the Trabant Incident, when we towed one 2 miles with a steel wire, is the most scared I've ever been in a car.
Finally, screw-in towing eyes are not really meant to tow the car, so do a proper evaluation if considering it. If you can't get the pole or rope parallel with the centre of both cars, DON'T USE THEM AT ALL!!!!
-
I've towed and been towed on a rope and a bar
just requires caution, common sense and good signaling from BOTH parties .
only towed or been towed out of danger though (live lane or away from a junction etc )
as for moving a car any distance ,that's what recovery trucks and trailers are for IMO
hence I have RAC with car insurance, AA with bank account and Auto aid ;D
I also check I've got fuel, 5 good tyres ,working lights etc before driving :-X

You need all that cover when you drive rusty old Vauxhalls :y

I see. Have you got ginger hair and a predilection for tennants superbrew? ;D

Another bonus of online shopping is we don't have to park in the car parks of supermarkets, in doing so avoiding all the idiots who fling their doors open and leave unsightly creases in the body panels. Don't think we will ever go back to trudging round pushing trolleys queuing & screaming brats+ 🍺 delivered to my door 😎
-
We are using the 'click and collect' facility at Sainbury's.
Buy and pay for the shopping online then drive to the car park. Pretty girl then puts all the shopping in the car.
Ten minutes. :y

There was queue for this in Asda yesterday, blocking the car park for those of us who don't trust some slip of a girl to chose our shopping for us.

Sod off ;D The Islanders distill their booze. And not a ginger hair in sight... Well apart from a single persistent bastid on my chin :D

They always f*uck the order up. Not a problem though, a quick call and they give you all the stuff you didn't order for free. This week we had a chicken and a big bag of sausages. :y

Lincolnshire sausages, I hope.

Stopped buying anything at Tesco since they started promoting Halal meat. In the UK fox hunting is banned, lots of animal rights/cruelty laws, but non stun slaughter is ok? Anyway just my decision.
I rarely go to Aldi anyway. Just don't like it.
Our Lidl is ok . . . in the evening. Almost empty
Best is a small local Co-Op. OK, they don't have everything, but almost, and prices are good. Customer numbers and distancing well controlled in a nice way. :y :y :y

Fair play to Tescos for publically admitting it.
Just because the others don't shout about it, doesn't mean that they don't sell it (or buy from suppliers that do) :-X
-
Most fast food outlets use halal meat. Pointless excluding the Asian population when they know the English will eat anything put in front of them, no questions asked.
-
I think the point is, that we have all kinds of animal protection laws and protections in place in this country, as the worlds most animal loving country.
Therefore there should be an outright ban on Halal meat being produced, sold, or consumed in this country, rather than pandering to those who produce, sell, and consume it.
Its all part of the hypocrisy of political correctness gone mad imo.
-
Don't frequent fast food outlets at all now ,I used to but since having diabetes watch carefully what I eat SWMBO makes burgers for us with minced steak on the odd occasion we have them , the only "takeaway" we have now is when we go to Hunstanton maybe once or twice a year Fish & Chips are great there.

Absolutely agree 100 percent I hate the way we have to acknowledge their nonsense. If that offends anyone tough.

They use what ever is cheapest, fast food outlets buy from the brovers cah n carry, I've seen frozen/chill product left outside for hours then put away later in the day,, Also our ethnic brovers working in food factory's were they produce pork products, , Remember being a good Muslin doesn't stop you making money buy selling pork and non-halal products to the infadels..

Mostly because they're all closed ::)
Incidentally, best fish and chips in Norfolk was at Potters Fish Bar, at Potter Heigham bridge. Apparently no more, but the one over the river seems to be well received :y

Indeed. In fact it's often said that a lot of meat is Halal, but just not labelled as such. There is pressure for labelling to be clear on this.
It niggles that shops will go on about vegan, gluten free, ethical eggs, free range chicken, line caught fish and everything so 'Nice' and ethical and cuddly . . . but then advertise their Halal meat on TV. Actually, the supermarkets claim that their Halal is humane blah blah. I just don't believe them. It's Halal or not Halal.
There are some terrible videos around of Halal slaughter, but it is never stated which country. I'm not some rabid animal activist. I like meat. I just think that in this day and age there is no excuse for brutality and needless suffering.
-
It does seem a very strange form of "religion " and I use that term very loosely indeed where so called human beings enjoy causing unnecessary suffering to helpless animals, if that's the way they wish to live do it somewhere else & not in the UK.
-
"Causing unnecessary suffering to helpless humans' sounds more like religion to me.

Just put some pork products in the halal meat section,, they have to clear it all out and restock that section... Also do you think the big supermarkets are going to put the halal and kosher on a separate motor to be delivered, I'll let you work that out.

Very rarely go in Aldi and it's a good 10yrs since I last went in Lidl,Sainsbury has always worked out more expensive than either Tesco or Morrisons.Asda is a store I've never got on with going to for some reason and I wouldn't even know where the nearest Waitrose is.
