Title: Gates cambelt kit for late engine
Post by: GrahamK on 30 May 2020, 13:38:45
I'm looking to change the cambelt on my 2003 2.6 V6.

I've found one on ebay by gates for a decent price (£114) but according to their literature i need a different kit for engines after a certain engine number. They are quite a bit more expensive and I wonder what the differences are between the two kits? I thought all the facelift V6's were the same.

Any ideas?

Graham.

Buy the cheaper kit and swap the pullies onto your existing back plates ;)

Omega parts in general and the later models in particular seem be suffering from a lot of inflation for the past 6- 9 months. And Covid-19 seems to have pushed up costs even further. A year ago we would have said buy two of the AC Delco kits and this would have cost £40 delivered.

There's a ContiTech (Continental) CTK990K2 kit here (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIT-OPEL-2-6i-3-2V6-SAAB-3-0V6T-VAUXHALL-2-5-3-2V6-Pulley-Tensioner-Kit-CT990K2/184200311443?epid=1709458581&hash=item2ae331b293:g:ThcAAOSw~ihcgRTV) for £80 delivered. Box a bit tatty but seems to be all there. This is the latest kit that has the newest type lower roller with no eccentric adjustment.

That's a good price for a premium Conti and you can also try (risk) making an offer.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I've plumped for that Contitech kit in the end, as £80 is not a bad deal for a known quality item.
Those £40 kits I've ordered before, but the guy just refunds me and won't supply? I am not sure what is wrong with my money, but one thing for sure was I was never going to buy the "other" kit he had for my car at 4 times the price.
Regards,

Graham.

Gates kits have gone don hill quality wise. SKF have pulled out of supplying the bearings etc for the rollers and tensioners due to the amount of problems.
They are no longer OEM suppliers either. SKF are now doing the own belt kits and Dayco are an up and coming OEM supplier
