It's good to hear about recent MOT test passes, just like Tony's this week. These two have also been for their test this week, the X reg sailing through with just advisories for rear tyres. The W reg has been off the road for the last 3 years, requiring a lot of work to get it into good order. I very nearly dismantled it for spares, after it collided with a small brick wall and ended up on top of it, causing damage to the wishbones and steering, but after finding there wasn't any penetrative corrosion anywhere, reconsidered and decided to tidy it up. I've covered every inch of it with work to the engine, cambelt kit, rust removal and prevention inside sills, wheel arches and chassis rails, replacement handbrake cable, new wishbones and steering, so after around a spend of £1200 I've got something half decent to run through the winter.

It didn't get a ticket due to headlight aim, but sailed through on everything else bar a couple of tyres.

After all that work I'm pleased as punch to have the car back up to scratch - there'll be a couple more years left in it yet. :)

They are a headache sometimes but once you've sorted all the 'normal' Omega issues and age wear issues they are still a great car.

Everything is repairable, I replied a similar way to another thread regarding this. no doubt many older members on here will remember cars from the sixties and seventies which normally lasted between 10 to 15 years absolute maximum until, the rust got them.door skins flapping loose,front and rear valance made entirely of filler ,the majority of cars over 5 years old had a yearly rising underseal layer all around the car !.
ive worked and restored many a car from this era and to be honest its a pleasant change to have something newer like an omega which doesnt realy rust compared to the older stuff.
yes sills will rust,wheelarches,etc etc but nothing even remotely like the older stuff and nothing that will ever render them scrap except in the most severe of cases.
modern cars die of electrical issues nowadays ( or garages that dont want to work on them so quote silly repair prices)rendering them "uneconomical to repair" to an average owner.
omegas will undoubtably remain in the hands of enthusiasts like some of us and will gain the same appreciation as any car would which was originally classed as an "everyday car".
So in theory if you intend to keep your own particular car forever like I intend with mine there's no logical reason why not.but you do need to be able to do your own work especially welding which will need doing every now and then.

New headlight adjuster fitted at weekend, unit reassembled and fitted back into car. Booked re-test for tomorrow.
I had the dreaded rev counter flicker at zero, with no speedo occur yesterday (fuel & temp gauges ok) - binacle out and cleaned contacts - all seems okay now.
Fingers crossed, it'll be good to get a few miles under its belt during the coming months

as for the speedo/tacho ,mine started to not work
i cleaned the contacts up etc , just became unreliable and i replaced it in the end with an I.R.S calibrated binnacle ,it's been fine since ,touch fake wood Formica ;D

I'm pleased to say the W reg passed its test today - headlight aim not quite spot (but close) due to my improvised bits of tape on the garage door, but at least the tester managed to adjust it this time.
Just got to buy some road tax and enjoy being behind the wheel of this car again after 4 years of it standing on the driveway. She's a bit tatty around the edges but mechanically sound, so will now be the winter car and can change over to the tidy X reg next spring. :D

I'll bear that in mind thanks :y Changing the ABS ECU doesn't exactly fill me with joy, so hopefully it will behave itself.
