Title: You know when Autumn has arrived, when....

.... the struts can no longer hold the tailgate up, and it falls down on your head. They were on their way out a few years ago, but the warmer weather gave them an extended lease of life.  :-[

Nooooo!  The law is November.

Put your BBC voice on and tell her is causing climate change. Then convince her this global warming is real, and thus artificial heating is not needed.

Heating?

Why, when the temperature is now at a comfortable level ALL DAY? And will be for another 6 weeks or so. Then it will be time to add or remove things like jumpers and coats as necessary.

For the first time ever , its me who has been putting the eating on first this year. Its due to the fact that the baby Tortoise needs a bit of heat in the mornings before it can start to move around.  ::) :-[ ;D

I do hope it's a real baby tortoise, and not a euphemism for something ghastly......

Trying to explain to a woman, that putting a jumper on to keep warm,in the house is correct, have obviously never tried having that conversation... Standard answer is, jumpers are for outside, and what's the point of having heating if it's not switched on when it's cold....  Answer yes dear.

Surprisingly they don't have to self isolate , they were staying in Olu Deniz and they had their temperature checked everywhere they went , got into Newcastle airport and they weren't checked once , everyone just went on their merry way , bat flu or not  :o

Let's not forget the reaction you get when you suggest that putting on your thermal underwear, two fleeces, winter coat and a scarf in September when the temperature changes from 20° to 12° overnight is going to make actual winter temperatures really uncomfortable. We all know the reaction; a look that has killed in the past, the statement that you're a hateful arsehole completely lacking in understanding, reason, empathy and compassion, and that you should piss off. While wearing the T-shirt. ;D

Oh it real. Its cost me a small bloody fortune in the 4 months its been here.  ::)  Strangely though, its a really endearing little thing, which has greatly surprised me. They require a great deal more looking after than people imagine though.

Can't you fit some wheels to it, and a piece of string to pull it along with.

This should increase it's mobility no end. :)

It can move surprisingly quickly as long as the temperature is suitably warm. The shell is effectively a solar panel and the more heat / uv it takes in, the more energy the little pork pie has.
Its 3 inches long and has so far cost me approx. £350 per inch, all in. Almost as much as both my cars cost.  :o
Still, a happy wife...................... ::) ;D

No. Paid £100 for it on 31st May for swmbos birthday the next day. Total spending on it since then has been approx. £1000 !!
Including he various bits of equipment needed, plus materials to build it an indoor enclosure. Then materials to build it a 3 foot by 8 foot by 3 foot high outdoor enclosure. It never seems to end.  ;D ;D
Since temps have dropped it sleeps 20 hours a day, and when its a bit older will sleep for several months of the year. Money well spent.  ;D

As I said though, a happy wife........... ::)

It's also 8 feet wide so his new best pal could indulge in both the long jump and high jump. :)

The exercise may help bring it out of it's shell.

Explain the purpose of a Tortoise as a pet? It can't chase Robbers,It doesn't play catch, you can't put a lead on it and go for a 5+ mile walk,  it won't wake you in the morning, it can't catch vermin,it can't sing,,,  sorry I must be missing something... :o

Swmno has wanted a tortoise for years, so finally got one for her birthday this year. Much to my surprise I have found it to be a fascinating little thing, which definitely has a character all of its own. it never stops climbing and then falling off things, and seems to have taken to me for some reason. When it hears my voice it hurries over in my direction and seems to listen intently.
I really am getting old.  ::) ;D

Had to try and remember woodwork class from 1974 to build this
(https://i.postimg.cc/yxS8R6kN/IMG_0720.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/QKhDG3gL)

Watched a youtube bricklaying video and managed to build this
(https://i.postimg.cc/2yHgCnzb/IMG_0683.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/wRmwVyRg)

Some furniture and two dozen bags of sterilised soil later.
(https://i.postimg.cc/fW3cCxdV/IMG_0718.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/K423v3Jb)

Do you think it will grow into it ?  ;D
(https://i.postimg.cc/t4fy3GGZ/IMG_0689.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/VJj3wT6m)

The recipient of all my hard work and kindness.  :)  ::)
(https://i.postimg.cc/kgDqRXzP/IMG_0690.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/G40ZZrbX)

The acrobatic displays make it all worth while. It climbs up the corners and almost gets to the top before faceplanting in the dirt. Or ends up wrong way up and has to throw itself all over the place to get itself right way up again.  ;D

(https://i.postimg.cc/7LvdPHyV/IMG_0668.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/87HttVcJ)

Forever trying to get under the gates to see whats on the other side, and doesnt seem to realise it has a shell on its back.

(https://i.postimg.cc/fW5G7Qxz/IMG_0681.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/Rq6p98sy)

Your sorry you asked now, arent you ?  :D ;D

If it's any conciliation ....
My Koi eat 2 bags of aldi prawns over £5 a week , plus expensive pre made Koi pellets plus homemade food (rice, peas, sweatcorn, chicken breast etc) plus mealworms and other treats and live in a heated indoor pond in the winter which will cost upwards of £200 in electric for the heat , plus add another £250 in electric to run the water pumps and filters etc per year .
the cat costs £35 a month to insure, plus upwards of £15 per week in food
It's expensive having pets  ;D

next time i'm having a pet stick  ;)

Tortoise food is free. Its just weeds really. Have to regularly walk around the local countryside foraging for them though.
This actually a good thing as we both need a bit of exercise.  ;)

Well I think I was about 8 and as I remember, Sam who was quite elderly, maintained a steady stream that Uncle STEMO would be proud of.  :y

I don't think I examined his dick in any detail, but that's how I know that a tortoise's dick points forwards.  :)

If the egs are hatched at a certain temperature (oround 30 degrees iirc) they will almost certainly be boys. If they are hatched a couple of degrees warmer, they will almost certainly be girls. Cant tell for certain though until they arwe a few years old apparently.
Things is Dora is very nosey and curious, loves heat, could sleep for England, and behaviour patterns follow no logic, so shes a girl.  :)

It is indeed rat proof. Hence the mesh lids. Rats wont try to bit through steel Hence that mesh is also all the way around the perimeter of my garden and shed.
Used to be plagued by the evil little bastards, and drowning them in a bucket of water gets a bit tedious after a while.

You must have a shit load of money. :)

Not anymore. He spent it.

Pets are expensive. A rabbit coat me £2k once.  Well it was allowed to roam free in the porch. Which it ate.

Or rather it ate through the rotten ply wood wall, built in the 1960s by wimpey.  I suppose we could have replaced that panel with a new piece of wood, but instead we replaced it in brick.

Last year the dog, a cavalier, died of old age, and I had to replace the laminate flooring in the downstairs due to him pissing next to the back door, due to old age and not bothering to bark to ask to be let out.
