Title: Škoda Octavia Mk1 Central locking?
Post by: kingmaker1703 on 28 October 2020, 00:51:40
Hello, I stubled upon one of central locking problem on škoda but it wasnt quite like mine, so I decided to ask here a question 'cause I dont know what I'm going to do

I bought škoda octavia mk1 pre facelift, year is 2000 and engine is 1.6 66kw.
Im not completly sure does my car have central locking, its not working, but Im assuming that it does because I have a fuse for it on the fuse box.
So what happens. When I use my key on drivers door, only those doors open, but not the rest, same thing on passenger side.
I dont know does it have central locking or maybe its not working? They should have central locking

An early, base model Octavia probably didn't have it fitted.

How can I check, what to look for?

You've established that it doesn't work, so either it wasn't fitted or it was fitted and is broken.

A VIN decoder might be able to confirm the factory build spec... A friendly Skoda service department might be able to help with this  ;)

You are probably well aware that your car may not have been fitted with central locking when built, or if it was, that it may not be working... ::) ::)

If Skoda at the time was similar to other VAG models, there may be a build sticker in the spare wheel well, or on the boot floor near to it which gives the factory build spec of that particular vehicle, along with any factory options. Unfortunately, if it does have the label, the specs are listed as letter codes, such as ABC or XYZ, or a number / letter combination as 1AB.  I have seen a list of what these relate to somewhere - maybe a Google search may help to identify any codes?
This sticker was also found in the front inside cover of the original service book on Golfs and Audis, so hopefully also with Skoda - if it still has one?

Stickers, codes, lists, decoders, etc.
How about removing the driver's door card and looking at the lock?

You maybe able to lift the electric window switches or a door handle and look through the hole, it'll save you from removing the door card.

I would have thought if it had central locking, it would have remote central locking. The 2 seem to go hand in hand.

If it has manual windows rather than electric, another clue could be the presence of the wiring loom entering the door frame by the A pillar.

Equally that could be speaker wiring, so really the simplest way is as Nick says - remove the door card and look for a solenoid etc

Silly question, is there a central locking button on the drivers door or dashboard?

From memory, would probably be on drivers door near inner handle, oblong in shape with a key on one side and open doors picture on other side.

More likely the switch is down by the hand brake.
