Wife's bother has just bought one of these fickin bike things that are never off the telly. Four grand! Wife wants one, says she'll settle for a cheaper one. I offered to get her the Barnsley model. She gets on her exercise bike and pedals. I cut the front out of a cardboard box, stick me head in it and shout at her. ;D
-
gaffa tape an Ipad to the handle bars of one of These (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdBqckqUvFU)bikes ;)
-
Tell her to get out in the fresh air on a proper bike. ;) Will do her far more good and aid her recovery from the bat thingy. :y
-
there was too many cyclists clogging up the roads last lockdown without encouraging more :o
-
I think about the only thing more tedious than a normal exercise bike would be one where you have some motivational idiot egging you on. ::)
It would be a real waste of 4 grand when you end up punching the screen, IMHO. ;D
-

Oi, Get some lycra on and get out there. :P
-
FOUR GRAND!!!!! :o :o
I have been wondering, when I see their TV advert, how much that all costs. That is equivalent to about 10 years of membership with a full gym and pool complex like Bannatynes (£35 per month).
Still if it gives someone pleasure and gives them what they want, why not?! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I used to ride bikes all the time ;)
then i grew up, past my car test and drove everywhere ,like any sane person would

I bet in total that cost more than four grand! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
Not that I am suggesting anything! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

I'm too tight to spend any serious money ,even back then ;D

One for sale near me on gumtree. £1600 and claimed unused. Bargain for someone, if you are into it I suppose....... ::)
-
£4000+ for what will be a 'five minute wonder' is very expensive.
A couple of sweaty work outs and it will take it's place next to the never used sandwich toaster. :)

.....don't forget than manual hair-trimming device from the sixties Lizzie. :-* :-* :-*
I don't think George Formby invented the low-fat grill Lizzie. I think it was the big black fella from the USA. If he had invented it it would have been called 'the turned out nice again grill'...... ;)

Your thinking of George Foreman, but I think he played the Ukelele. :y :D

Mrs STMO will use it twice......maybe three times.
Then it will be on Ebay starting at 99p. ;D

Peloton is worth $33.75 billion and has annual sales of $1.83 billion, so on the face of it they're doing OK! :y

Yep there's quite a few US tech companies whose share price has doubled since January, Netflix, Spotify, Amazon etc, but Zoom is the standout as their shares have gone from $60ish in January to nearly $600 earlier in the month before falling back to about $460 at the moment.
As countries increasingly lockdown across the Northern hemisphere during winter, demand for Zoom's services are going to increase again so that share price could be cheap. :-\

I've ridden a few bikes in my time as well, because I couldn't afford a Marina, which impressed the fit girls.. ;D

What have mopeds and fat girls got in common? ???
They are fun to ride but you don't want to be seen out with them! ;D

If you found the gear you wanted in a marina, you were either very lucky or enchanted. An excuse for continued brushing of your girlfriends knee area😂😂

Grossly overvalued if that is all their turnover is, will be a readjustment there in the coming years

The valuation of some (ok, most) tech companies is really beyond me. The majority of them seem to turn no profit, yet run P/E ratios and revenue multiples that would have been considered unthinkable 20yrs ago.
I guess everyone must be speculating on the next Apple / Amazon :-\. I'll stick to investing in things/companies I understand. ;D

It's a lot older than that: You probably remember the South Sea Bubble? ;)

same cause though, clever people extracting more cash out of the latest financial fad than it could ever be worth. Which is why they all end in a crash that's even bigger than the boom.

Ah, yes, boom and bust. I thought Gordon Brown had stopped that kind of thing.

Personally I wouldn't buy one of these over priced exercise bikes. I'd prefer to buy a normal bike and one of those stands with rollers so you can use it indoors as well. You get the best of both worlds, but at less cost. Also, when they become a clothes horse, they'll have more value.
And never mind Peloton, have you seen the advert for the other similar company, Echelon? Wait until the near the end of the advert, there is a shot of woman from the breasts upwards (so no bike in shot) arms in the air, eyes closed and a facial expression that suggests it's not a bike she is riding. ;)

I don't find it offensive, it just raised a smile. Anyway, https://youtu.be/T7d3M2Z7SFk?t=23 I've not marked it NSFW (Not Safe For Work) as it's on broadcast TV.

Owning horses would make a Peloton seem like a bargain.
Best advice I heard for any potential horse owner was put your shotgun in your mouth and pull both triggers

The last 6 months has taught me that apparently Tortoises are in a similar category. ;D

"Our*" slug, as Dad always called the tortoise as it frequently demolished his vegetable patch, "will bloody outlive us all".
Well, it outlived him by some margin, and has never cost a penny... ...although I reckon mum secretly buys him lettuce and stuff, rather than just throwing him stuff that was going out of date in the fridge ;D
Every winter she tucks him up, and she always sounds delighted every spring when he wakes up.
I say "our" because I have no idea where he came from, or if he really was ours or just adopted. But we've had him for as long as I can remember.
-

Always wondered how you tell when its time to wake them up, or even if you can... do you just listen for scraping on the inside of the box* or just invest in a massive alarm clock?
*My granny's tortoise used to get over wintered in a shoebox in the attic. I think she inherited 'Timmy' from a neighbour, either that or he just ended up in our garden, he was quite the escapologist for one so slow and ungainly. ;D

Have to be kept above 5 degrees but below 10.
Over 10 degrees they wake up. Under 5 degrees their eyeballs freeze first so they wake up blind. After that the internal organs freeze and they never wake up.
Need to be checked regularly to see if temp is ok, and check they havent peed or pooed. If they have then they need to be woken up as anything left inside will rot and ferment and kill them.
Also need to check they are still asleep, because if they wake and stay in a box for months they may well starve to death.
Not as low maintenance as their reputation suggests.
Of course I didnt know any of this before buying the wee shite. ::) ;D
Also, it cant be just left to roam around the garden (hence my building of its own personal outdoor adventure playground) because we have lots of rats around here, as well as Buzzards and Red kites, so it wouldnt last a day out there.
Rats chew Tortoise legs off just for fun. Hateful evil creatures that they are. >:(
-
We had one when I was a kid. It went in a shoebox in the cupboard under the stairs, no temperature checks, no poo or wee checks, nothing. It just came out when it was ready. We didn't have a garden, either, so it never went out of the house. It was still there when I left to join the army, but I don't remember at which point it wasn't there.
-
This one is supposed to be one of the more hardy, low maintenance breeds. Wouldnt want to have a high maintenance breed. ::)

I know we've never done any of that in the last 45 years.
Guess its no different to having kids in 2020. If you dared smack them, or even tell them off, or made them walk to school, they would instantly die.

Possibly. Current perceived wisdom is that years ago everyone had one and many of them lived unhappy and shortened lives.
Much more is known about them now and the info is there to care for them much better and give them happier healthier lives.
How true all of this is I dont know. Doesnt matter though, its SWMBO,s baby and its going to be the best cared for Tortoise in the world - ever. ::)
