Just been reading an article from the Sunday Times about how the new administration in America feels about Boris. Some snippets:
"They do not think of him as an ally. Britain is an ally but there will be no special relationship with Boris Johnson"
A senior US politician, working with Biden "If you think Joe hates him (Boris), you should hear Kamala Harris"
When Obama removed a bust of Churchill from the White House, Boris said it was "A symbol of the part-Kenyan presidents ancestral dislike of the British Empire".
A former Obama press aide called Boris a "Shapeshifting creep" and said "We will never forget your racist comments about Obama and your slavish devotion to Trump"
Not the best of starts, then. ;D

As my old nan used to say " It will all end in tears".
-
True but he has bigger fish to fry.
Russia and its ever encroachment on Europe for example ( like a spell of bad weather)
China and trade and world domination ( like wholesale climate change)
There are some bridges to rebuild Europe to US . Our world class statesmen and women will do that. Merkel will get on better with Biden than she did with Trump. I dare say he will not pull out the us soldiers in Germany for example.
Of course that is for next year, the circus continues.
-
It has been suggested that Putin has Parkinsons, so Russia has its own problems to worry about.
-
In politics, once the people vote for a leader, it is not a case of who likes who, are even who hates who, it is what the politician can get for their country, it's people and, yes, themselves!
What Biden thinks of Boris personally will not come into the decisions that have to be made, although Biden / USA will always have the stronger hand at the political poker table.
As Varche rightly points out, Biden has bridges to rebuild with Europe over a number of policies, and he certainly will do all he can to pull all the countries, including the UK, back to the fold away from any favouritism towards China and Russia. As in high level business, it is not who you kike, but who can give you the most to meet your objectives.
May a new very interesting period in US and European politics now commence 8) 8) :y

Is the UK showing any favouritism towards Russia and China? ???
China maybe, but that has recently cooled off rapidly for obvious reasons and I haven't seen any of our recent PM's getting pally with Putin, again for obvious reasons. ::)

With China we currently favour their goods and services which personally I do not like but live with as our poor industry and workers cannot seem to be able to mass produce even nuts and bolts, let alone many electronics.
In the case of Russia, Putin will not last forever and then we could do this good business with that country, unless the US make a better offer. Just looking ahead ;)

Try telling that to Huawei ;D. And they are not unique, only our awful media don't mention anyone else.

In no small part because they're forced to spend most of this year locked indoors when we should ALL be working our arses off to get the most out of Brexit.
If that means fencing in students the bring it on, but don't you dare sell us out to the Chinese.

No that is the last thing I want. I would love it if Great Britain could again be seen stamped on the majority of what we buy with our industry again producing quality, good value products produced by a fully employed British workforce that the World wants. We did it once, so perhaps we could do it again if Joe Public stopped buying purely based on price and convenience.
Am I hoping for the impossible? Probably. But if we all, including our politicians and industrialists, were to invest in that objective in any way we can then perhaps we could over the next 20 years.
Failing that, it is better to buy from the USA and Europe, but not China. ;)

No but equally we weren’t showing any antagonism. Where were we when Rods2 rightly pointed out the Russian aggression in East Europe? Ten years ago “ pound shops “in Spain were owned by Moroccans . They have all retired and they are owned now by Chinese.

There's a lot of Chinese, they've got to live somewhere.

They say parts of China are nice. That might be the ideal place. Its quite big I think. ;)

I grew up with a large Chinese community, most of them had scouse accents. They were less trouble than the Irish kids. ;D
-
Thats besides the point. :P ;D
Irish are trouble. Everybody knows it. If you let them in then dont complain about it. :D

True. Every small town has three or four of these poundshops. Think supermarket sized original Wilkos. They sell everything except food. They do a good trade.
-
It will be interesting to see how trade with China develops in light of some of the new laws they are passing, particularly around data and the commercially sensitive information that companies will soon be required to disclose to the Chinese government.
I can foresee a cooling off of the rush into China, particularly from firms that have any military/government contracts in their operations.
Cheap eastern manufacturing is certainly here to stay, manufacturing in China, I'm less certain about.

Yes countries like Vietnam, the Philippines and particularly India must be salivating at the prospect at picking up extra inward investment from the West. :)

Nope, we're a small town, and don't have a pound shop. Thank God.
We do have an influx of Irish families though. You know, the sort who dont pay taxes or for any goods they want, and shit in the fields outside their homes.

Well....your uncle Boris is not giving in on the border issues, despite Biden making noises. So that's good...isn't it? :-\
PS. Worse than France, are you sure?
-
Boris says he isnt giving in today, but he does more U turns than an Autotest racer. ::)
Worse than Fr***e ? Not sure. It varies from day to day, depending which one has pissed me off the most. :D

I like France. And the French*
*Not those in Calais or Paris. But they aint French anyway.

And most scousers are Irish Catholics. Strange world.

Yo like France because they smile at you and say "Merci" while taking your money. They actually hate the British with a passion. ::)

Why wouldn't they? We are a little bit 'superior', aren't we?

That, I'm delighted to say, is not my experience. Ignoring Parisians of course. Parisians are grumpy because they know Paris is just like London, only smells more.

Anyway, getting back to the point. This Govt have only themselves to blame if sleepy Joe doesnt want to play ball with them. They (particularly Theresa the appeaser) had four years to get a deal done with Trump, but the fannied around and did nothing much.
It may well bite them on the arse now.
Apparently theres a recent video doing the rounds (I havent seen it yet) where Biden is on the campaign trail, and a reporter sticks a microphone out and says "a word for the BBC ?" He replies "BBC ? Im Irish" and walks off.
Not a good sign.

Far cough. :P

Only askin like, he's around your age, thought you might know him.

His foreign policy record is almost as good as Ton E B Liars ;D
Actually ;D is inappropriate :'(

This was criminally negligent in my opinion, and they should have taken full advantage of Trumpy's term in the White House! >:( ::)

There's hope yet...
