A keen buyer arrived to buy the 3.2 Elite. He was happy with the car until trying the sunroof, which I probably last opened 5 years ago. It opened OK, but wouldn't close the last 2 inches, and just kept cycling open/partly shut. It wound closed OK on the winding mechanism, and was quite stiff to close the last bit. Is this likely to be lubrication required somewhere? :-\
He's still having the car at the asking price, and left a deposit to pick the car up next weekend, and I would like to have the roof operating OK by then.

Ditto. Mine hasn't been opened for a similar time since I got it .tried it recently and it did the same thing. After doin the fully open ,fully up ,fully down etc reset procedure it worked ok .

Clean and lubricate the mechanism/levers.. make sure the "wind shield" drops or gently pull it down... there is a system that "senses" if the apature is restricted (think childs hand in the hole) and prevents it shutting if it thinks this .....
I used to get this if it wasn't used much ... get it to start working with wd 40 or similar then cycle it a few dozen times .. all seems to work loose...

Thanks, just sen the post of similar. Will check the flaps tomorrow with a slightly better wx forecast. :y

When my sunroof did that after being fully open, I would select tilt when it was open and it would go through the closed position to tilt. It would be fine after that so I'd just go through the motions of resetting it by holding the button up at each position. :y

Seems a common fault now as mine also does strange things despite having the disc magnet cleaned and even replaced.
Sometimes the roof opens on tilt when driving without being touched but a reset of going through each position holding the button seems to fix it ....they must all be just getting to "that age" now

Can't see the point of a hole in the roof myself.
-
Not much keen on them myself tbh. Rarely use mine. If its fitted though, it has to work. :)

If I had one on a 20 year old car, and it wasn't leaking, I'd leave well alone.

Well, there is that I suppose. ;D
The drivers seat heater doesnt work on mine, and it really irks me. I wouldnt use it much, but I dont like having things not working. ::)

I think I'm over that. I had a warning every time I started up. I'd had it before and knew a glow plug needed replacing (£120 on my car). I just cancelled it for about four months until the car was due a service. I wouldn't have done that in the past.

And mine does the shifting about thing too so I took the fuse out.

That's counterproductive as it is meant to adjust itself under certain conditions.

Doing the "reset" thing with the rotary switch (in the various positions) usually gets it going and once operational a spot of white grease on the mechanical parts will keep it healthy.
It's a bit like the aircon. You need to use it regularly to keep it functioning.

as mr stemo says, i cant see the point in a sunroof. never have. if they were a bad rust trap area like on the earlier mk1 carltons, senators and mantas then the usual fix is to fit a complete" non sunroof " roof skin but seeing as omega ones dont rust up there il just leave it shut. !
besides. how much sun do we get to actually want it open ?

They're just like convertibles, better in the spring and autumn.
I like a good tilt/slide sunroof, and use them frequently but wish they weren't glass. Steel ones were much better.

It used to amuse me when reviewers would mention wind noise.......on a car that had a firkin great hole in the roof.
