Title: Good Old Fashioned Nosh!
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 27 November 2020, 20:22:33
For some strange reason I fancied liver and onions for me tea tonight.  :)

98p bought me a 512 kilo of pigs liver, 12p for an onion, 50p for a savoy cabbage and I already had a bag of spuds in, but a kilo of King Eddies was about £1.20 in Tesco's.  So cheap as chips, easy to cook, tasty and nutritious as well!  :y

It got me thinking though.... When I were a lad, Tuesday night was liver night almost without fail, but do people eat such food today?  ???  :-\

I would rather pluck my own eyeballs out and eat them than eat liver.............or kidney, or chicken, or eggs,or turkey or tripe,or tongue, or coconut, or dark chocolate,or semolina, or tapioka, or most fish products ...and quite a few other things.
Swmbo says Im fussy but I cant imagine why she thinks that.  ::)

In do love liver. Sadly I made some for last night shift but missed bait. Then forgot to get it out of the fridge before coming hom.

I think the safest thing to do will be to retrieve the Tupperware box and bury it.

Encase it in concrete first.

I think liver was forced down every kid back in the day. Hated it then......and now. Speaking of cheap nosh I had some homemade left-over cottage pie for lunch a couple of days ago.

It was crispy and f*ucking lovely. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Poor people get to go to food banks, and get Footballist to feed their kids, because once they've paid for full sky package, I-phone 12 contract, designer Trainers, and a visit to the Nail bar, there skint.

Tigger should be lambs liver, it's not as strong as pigs liver,,  Did you roll it in flour, seasoned with pepper, then fry it, served with Lashings of Gravy..

Liver does need that thick onion gravy, and some bacon pieces in it. Its the law.

Sadly, my quack warns me of the consequences (and she is right), but I don't listen to the medical profession.

I like liver and onion sandwiches the liver has got to be crispy & burnt on the edges though, used to have them regularly in Ireland in the bad old days.

Well I've just had lamb chops, chips and peas followed by hot chocolate fudge cake with double cream. Think I'm about half a stone heavier than I was half an hour ago.

Trouble is, there's half a cake left and some cream. Got to try to leave it till tomorrow.

Believe it or not, that was my 86 year old dads portion. You wouldn't want to see my plate, you'd think I was a fat b@stard or summut. ::)

As for the original question, yes Liver and Onions is a regular meal here, although 512Kg of Liver might last a while. I'm particularly fond of the Hairy Bikers recipe from the BBC food web site. I agree with TheBoy, needs bacon pieces in it, lots of gravy, some nice mashed (not creamed) potato together with some carrots and green cabbage. And a good strong red wine.

There is nothing in this world that is more enjoyable than a full English. When I lived in London I got used to having bubble and squeak with it, missed it when I came back up north.

Basically a full English with fried potato bread and fried soda bread thrown in. A delicious heart attack on a plate.  :)
