I think the starter on my Mondeo is on it's way out. :'(
More often than not now I get a Click when I press the starter button and it will take 3 or 4 goes before the starter springs to life. :-\
Apart from whacking it with a hammer, are there any remedies for a temperamental starter? ???
I've changed the battery BTW. :)

You could remove and clean the solenoid but with the work i volved may be easier just to replace it...
First off, check the wiring carefully for condition and attachment.

If it's a diesel with a dual mass flywheel, you might want to check your piggy bank before going much further.....

Needs the starter popping off and checking
The Ford diesels are known for DMF issues that get bad to the point the ring gear can distort and cause the starter to not always engage....
....but do the basics first :y

No! It's obviously a sensor or module that needs buying off eBay and changing. If that doesn't work you can start thinking mechanical.

It always goes wrong when I think about selling it and I'm sure the damn thing has feelings! ::) ;D

Hopefully when you remove the starter it isn't covered in filings.

That's the sign of DMF failure.
As is a car for sale that's recently had a new starter, but not a clutch and flywheel.

Yep, a well known issue.
