There are three aspects to this....
1) It was massively disrespectful on the son's part to bring his porn collection into his parents house, as he must have known of their disapproval.
2) Whatever the parents opinion, it was the sons property, porn or not and they were wrong to destroy it.
3) Why didn't the son just sneak his porn in and stash it under the bed like everyone else?! ;D

This ;) property is property whether it's a work of art or a box of tissues or a Confederate flag.
The Constitution trumps (pun intended) house rules. An unfortunate but technically correct resolution to an awkward situation.
Not sure that $18k worth would fit under the matress :D

For 18 grand he should try the real thing instead of wank mags.

???
That's an assumption and a half...
All sorts of things are collected by all sorts of people. Would you say the same if it were $18k of model trains or comics or sports memorabilia?

Speaking personally, if my lad had left stuff like that anywhere that his mum might come across it, I would set fire to it and tell him to sling his hook. That's just me, though.

My Mum found a couple of pornos under my bed when I was about 14 and she didn't go nuts or anything, just told anyone that would listen... ::)
Oh the humiliation! :-[ :( ::) ;D

Agreed ... and no 40 year old son would be allowed to live rent free in my house .... not that my lad would want to !! I'd restrict his social life far to much .... just as I did when he was 18 and left home .... my rules are my rules, obey or leave ... not difficult !!

No arguments there. :y. And yes, I do pay rent.

I first left home a callow youth of 18. Lived with my girlfriend of the time in a shitty damp bedsit. This lasted about 3 months. I then lived at home (on and off) until 21. People need their own space.
My parents were really great. They had no problems with me bringing girls home from clubs and sleeping with them in my room. They always respected my privacy.
The old man thought it great to tease me with things like 'keep the noise down' but always with a knowing smile. I don't recall having any 'wank mags' under the bed at that time (I didn't do much wanking).....but they would have just ignored them anyway.
So.....stay at home no later than 21, or join the army.
