Whilst on the thread about Gollum liking this, I noted this on the link given:

Good very anyone like me who loves The V Bombers, and is interested by historical facts.

Easy to forget the size of these things - XL318 is on display at RAF Hendon. Well worth a visit (at some point far in the future).

Yes, went there before the first full lock down started with one of my grandsons, the 10 year old, as I had been there many years before with my children.

Obviously the displays have changed and are even better now.  My grandson (and !)  loved being able to get underneath the bomb bays of the Vulcan and the Lancaster.  I was able to explain to him the pay loads they could carry, the destructive power of both, which was helped by the array of bombs around the Vulcan.

Yes, they are big and lovely, and I am pleased to say the ten year old was able to see the Vulcan when flying at the Eastbourne air show a few years ago.  Just a shame all the examples are now grounded, but at least every so often we get to see the B of B Flight Lanc, let alone a constant run of Spitfires in the Summer,  flying over down here in the South East.

My granddon and I cannot get enough of them!! :-* :-* 8) 8) 8) :y :y

I stood agog at the Hendon one, hadn't appreciated the size even having seen one flying at Southport

There used to be a Vulcan on static display at Newark air museum-it's only a tiny museum at the side of the Newark and Notts showground-which you could walk round and under.Went to Hendon once in the '80s never managed to get back ye though.Duxford another amazing place to visit including the "American Hangar" with its B17,B29,B52 and SR71 etc The glass/perspex plaques outside and the side room inside with the names of all the American aircrews killed in WW2 are very poignant.

Vulcan 607 is a thoroughly enjoyable read 8)

Funnily enough, I gave my Bro a copy of "An ungentlemanly act" for his birthday...
