roughly a month ago i posted that i was caught speeding. its been about 3 weeks since the relevant authority would have received the form i filled in & i still haven,t heard anything. is it normal for it to take a few weeks ?

Don't worry , they'll get you in the end :y

Depends how you were caught. Camera van, radar gun or speed camera should be 14 days from date of offence. Spoken to at the side of the road and they have 6 months to prosecute. I think I've got that right but I'm sure someone will correct me if not. :y

radar gun , exceeded by only 2mph given in a 30 zone i could be doing 34 & no penalty issued but i was doing 36mph.

It will be up to he who is in charge .... you may be lucky

Read the question ;) it will have been x amount of time since they authority received the form the OP sent in, not from date of NIP
Sounds like it's probably best to take it on the chin and hope for a course :y :y

Would think that 36 in a 30 zone would be a defo pull. ;)

Assuming the "form you filled in" was the initial Notice of Intent to Prosecute (aka NiP), then you just have to sit and wait because it all depends what happens next. It'll probably be either a Conditional offer of a Fixed Penalty (CoFP) which will be 3 points and a £100 fine, or the offer of a Speed Awareness course.
They have 6 months from the date of the offence to 'lay papers' at the magistrates court - which will eventually result in a summons from "The Beak". If the CofP or the Speed Awareness offer arrives in month 5 (or later), then a timeout may be possible, but from what you say you're still 4 months from that.
It sounds like you returned the NiP fairly promptly (less than a week?). In the future, don't return it earlier than 25 days after you received it!

Yes sorry, my mistake. I was thinking that you were waiting to see if you'd been done or not. Having re-read it I see you have already sent the form back, so just ignore my comment. :-[
