Happy New Year :D
Though I suspect the majority of 2021 will be similar to 2020, despite what the media imply.
I looked up how many people are classed as vulnerable, care workers or older than me, and its around 25-28m people. Now *IF* the jab rate averages 1m a week as the government promise (remember the 500,000 tests a day back in the summer, that I think they haven't yet achieved), I take it my 1st jab will be sometime from late June to early September... ...and thats completely ignoring the 2nd jabs, which effectively doubles the maths.
And lets face it, I ain't no spring chicken.
I note some scientists are now stating that herd immunity won't kick in until 90% vaccination due to the "new" strain first detected months ago. Which puts it probably into 2022, and thats assuming that further boosters aren't required to keep this at bay.
So I'm at a loss how the media are suggesting that normality will be by the start of Spring.

Because Matt Hancock was spouting the same nonsense yesterday.
Happy new year.

Happy New Year to all on here, got to agree think we've got 12+ months to go yet before any trace of normality returns, all we can do is take care & stay safe.

Happy new year everyone. Despite the Pandemic there are some positives. From 11pm tonight we wont just be out. We will be out out. :y

Whilst definitely not the best year I have ever experienced, has 2020 been universally that bad? Its been different, very different, but can't say its been as bad as the media are telling us its been.
For 70,000+ families, its been shittier than many. Not sure what the usual annual death rate is, or how big a proportion of those 70,000 wouldn't be with us anyway now.
I think 2020 has shown that, in addition to there being complete utter oppswits who couldn't care less about others, it has brought out the very best in more normal people. Its enabled forced less tech savvy people to embrace some of the technological marvels available, including video conferencing. Its shown to many companies that home working, properly managed, can work better for both the employer and employee... ...though its unlikely many of the larger companies will continue with home working the majority of the time - though I think that is more an insight into what directors do when working at home ;)
Not being able to see so much of friends and family isn't great. But a lot of that hole has been filled with video calls etc. TBH, I think I've seen more of my complete family (ignoring my sister, she don't count) on calls in 2020 that I would normally. In the TB family, we normally only all get together at family events, partly due to the hassle of getting everyone together, and the amount of travelling needed. 2020 was simply a case of getting laptop/tablet/whatever out at a set time every month...
I can't imagine many of us will forget 2020 - its been a year that has globally impacted everyone, in the same way 9/11 or Apollo* - but it will be a year I look back on with very mixed emotions.
*I was going to include WWII, but that is on the verge of being dropped from living memory.

Don't know what I was expecting but I had a thought that midnight in respect to everyone and everything would be the most eerie quiet I had ever heard but in contrast.up here there were more fireworks going off than plot night and more than I heard even on millennium night.
Everyone says it every year but fireworks should be banned full stop!.
It was however very quiet at nine this morning .hardly any cars at all.
Happy new year to all

Fireworks were more muted here, and seemed to be earlier.
Lets hope we have another lockdown next year.
