Title: Currys
Post by: hotel21 on 02 September 2008, 20:05:12
No, not those tasty concoctions that your local takeaway or AmigoMV6 produces, but that bunch of eejits that have electrical stores up and down the country....

Our family life is a little busy at the moment between one thing or another, and a new fridge freezer hove into view on Mrs H21's radar recently.  After much looking and measuring, it was decided that a new Whirlpool US style fridge would fit into a mildly revamped fitted kitchen.  Deed done at local Currys with (paid) delivery included.  Told the lass in the shop that kitchen is upstairs on the first floor and she said, no probs, we have a heavy lift team with loads of special tools to get these things upstairs.

Delivery was today.

Mutt and Jeff turned up and said they 'did not do stairs'.  After lots of friendly banter and repartee with much backslapping and hearty guffaws, was told that there is a 'special team' with 'lots of special tools' to deliver such things....  I pointed to the delivery note, indicating that we already knew that, and we all agreed that there had been an upcock.  They were, however, adamant that my new fridge freezer - 'you know these things weigh 150 kgs, pal' -  was going to stay on their waggon and the earliest delivery would be saturday or sunday.

I then spent an hour getting bounced around various call centre types who were unable to assist or indeed, were intested that my kitchen resembled a building site and my old fridge freezer was now at the dump.

Depending on what happens when I ream the local store manager in the morning, face to face (after hospital chemo session) then I may or may not be able to attend this weekends soiree at Newent.  The way its panning thus far, its looking doubtfull.   >:(

Fekkin muppets..... :-X

I have just spent the afternoon on the 'phone to all the usual suspects, cancelling this and reducing my package on that. I have been accross the world today.

Winner is:  Ancestry.co.uk. A lady in the States got me nearly £40 back on my subscription, surprise  :).

Loser is:    Microsoft. A bloke in (India?) took 30 minutes to cancel an Xbox 360 gamertag subscription. The killer is, this is the ONLY way to reduce an xbox live gold account (£5 a month) to silver (free). 30 minutes of 'sorry mate, I didn't catch that', 'sorry, can you say that again'  I was trying my best to work it out too. >:(

I appreciate your frustration Hotel21. Bad customer service is endemic and we don't seem to learn. If we stopped giving them our money, it would soon change. But we still walk through the doors of Currys and PC World thinking, yeah, it'll be OK this time.....  :(

I would keep any food that goes off as they usually like to inspect it before paying compensation but if they don't come over soon enough to see the rotting food it will start to smell and you'll have to bin it all. If you can get as many receipts from friends and neighbours for food shopping after all those American F/F cost a lot to fill, know what I mean ;)

To be fair, no probs with the frozen food etc.  We simply lived out the box for a while and virtually emptied it.

Whats more, I'm trying to gain more points with the big chap upstairs with the clip board and yellow jacket, rather than risk the other one with the oversize toasting fork that lives downstairs....   :D

I was a manager for Comet for many years and the amount of people who bought whole fresh Salmon and hugh steaks to fill their new fridge freezers was amazing ::)

To be fair Elite Pete, Currys open themsleves to it. If they got it right to start with, there would be no need to come back with with spoiled food. Salmon, steak or otherwise.

i used to work in currys for a xmas job about 8 years ago, never buy from them!

I was upstairs in the store room, we had a conveyor belt that led upstairs, which was full of TV's

Customer just bought 32" Sony TV (old big style thing) A corner of the box got caught going down, i gave it a light kick  ::)

It then sumasult'd down the conveyor belt, rotating about 6 times in total. Boss saw and looked up, me expecting the sh!t kicked out of me calmly said, whos that for?

I said bald chap out front, off it went!  :o

I know someone else who used to work for DSG and customer returns would just go straight back into stock on the assumption that the d1p5h1t who bought it didn't read the instructions. Not difficult to see how people have reported buying laptops and found them pre-loaded with porn!

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Plenty of other suppliers who offer decent service.

Responsible retailers know that under the Sale of Goods Act product that has left your store and is subsequently returned for whatever reason MUST be classed as 'second hand' and if subsequently resold then that fact MUST be clearly stated to the customer with their rights remaining as if the product was being sold 'as new'.

It is an offence under the said Act to resale returned product 'as new' and can render the retailer to prosecution by Trading Standards, who are always interested to receive information of such practices. :y

Seen that kind of attitude before with currys drivers and mates and comet ones as well....if it is a U.S. style f/f it would of taken approx 15 mins to get the doors off and get it into house if the crew know what they are doing...sounds like to me it was "oh sugar, i dont want to do this drop...tell em its gotta be 3ms to deliver it...."tell em you want your del charge refunding for the inconvience of their cock up or your going to cancel and go to comet trust me they`ll play ball they would rather give back the £25-50 del charge than lose a £600 plus sale to comet or anyone else for that matter...

I just use these stores as a place to view the product and generally wind upa nd piss off the sales staff when they cant sell me the item for a reasonable price.

Then I get a few mates round to help with the shifting!

Used to have a great place on the industrial estate who would match any price, inc internet, for white goods, and deliver into kitchen (usually had to give the driver a hand etc though) - a real old fashioned service, at internet prices :y

Looks like the DSG group is getting it's just deserts.
Dixons Group still suffering (from The Register) (http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/09/03/dsgi_interims_poor/)

A couple of things made me smile:
"The company's change programme is progressing - 5 PC World stores have been refitted..."
That'll fix it then.

"Staff training is also ongoing with 20, 000 "colleagues" expected to have completed customer service training by Christmas. "
Priceless  :o

We had new cooker bits* last year, I was supposed to fit the non gas bits as there was no actual installation, but since I had removed the fan and the oven they did the lot

*Gas hob, built under electric oven, extractor fan

As a wee update, basically, nowt doing....

Earliest the 'heavy lift team' can attend at my home with the fridge freezer is Sunday, possibly Saturday if theres a cancellation, and thats that.  The lass in the store pushed the wrong button when on the ordering screen on her PC and, as a result, where we are today.  Spoke to her personally and she was most apologetic and, for once, I actually believed her sincerity.

Despite calling personally into and phoning or e-mailing around what seems like the whole of the UK, its the earliest option thats available and, as a result, has robbed me of my weekend away.

Oh rowlocks..........

Not impressed.......   >:(

Seems it was a genuine error on her part -- but the least they could do is offer some compo or waive the delivery charge, as a gesture of goodwill ....surely ???

I'd tell em to be there 5 o'clock Monday (or some other time that suits you .. not them) without fail or the deal is off, and have an enjoyable weekend away.

try telling that to wifey who is still spitting feathers that her kitchen is now a bombsite.  Stretching that by a day is, seriously, not an option!   ;D
