Title: Car Horn
Post by: Figureman52 on 04 February 2021, 19:18:04
Twice now the car horn, not the alarm has started to sound continuously. I stopped it by pulling fuse 17.

I am not using the car at the moment. Does anyone know what might be causing it?

Thanks.

Damp in the horn ring contact or relay.

Thanks for that. Is this something that would clear up by simply using the car, or should I be taking something apart to rectify it?

Relay is a standard part and not worth messing with - change it.

If it is caused by damp in the horn ring, then it's a real job for WD40 - Water Displacement 40 :y

Where is the relay located?

The horn ring is presumably located on the steering wheel, can I get to this by removing the cowling behind it?

The relay is the green one in the cabin fusebox under the steering column ;)

Horn ring contacts are ideally and airbag out job as it probably isn't a good idea to randomly dowse the back of the airbag with WD40 ::)

Not as drastic as it sounds, just disconnect the battery and wait half an hour. DO NOT insert the key or turn the ignition on whilst the airbag is unplugged.
