Title: Question about sprockets
Post by: iansoutham on 13 February 2021, 15:33:13
Questions for you all, purely out of boredom really.

Why do some X20xev engines have 2z cam sprockets with both inlet and exhaust locations and markings and others only have this on the exhaust cam but a fixed sprocket on the inlet?

They aren't all X20 engines :-\

According to EPC.
Y22XE and Z22XE use the one size fits all sprocket on the inlet cam, GM #90411776.
X20XEV uses the one size fits all sprocket on both the inlet and exhaust cams, also GM 90411776.
Y22XE and Z22XE use an exhaust cam only sprocket, GM #90530443

So if you are finding engines with the fixed sprocket on the inlet then that's incorrect. Probably bend the valves.
Why the the Y22XE exhaust cam sprocket is different to the earlier X20XEV, I don't know.

Mine has the 2x different sprockets and runs fine with timing marks all lining up. Single lug sprocket on inlet and duel lug on the exhaust. Would post pic up but nowhere to host it at the moment

Where's the difference between the 20 and the 22? Is it the block or the head/valves or both :-\

Is this a 2.0L 16V, X20XEV?

This being the case the exhaust side cam sprocket seems to be the expected one size fits all design, part number #9041776. One size fits all because it has dual positions for the dowel and is marked with inlet as well as exhaust. This sprocket is supposed to be on both cams.

Are you able to confirm the part number on the inlet cam sprocket, I can't quite read it? Perhaps this has been replaced at some point?

Yes, X20XEV

Original cam sprockets, history of the car is known.
