Title: Does anyone have a Holiday Let ?
Post by: New POD on 26 March 2021, 16:16:48
Just looking at options on a house, that we own.  Want some real world experience to see if the hassle is worth it.

No...too much hassle and damage.

No...too much hassle and damage.

Is that perception or based on experience?

Surely it depends on the type of property, where it is, and whether you want to manage it yourself...

Long term rentals can be a bit further away with a property manager, but for short term, you would surely need to be on hand, much as you would if it were a B and B :-\

Experience......and more than once. Human nature is not always good.

Simply not worth the hassle , have rented properties out in the past both good & bad experiences.

There are a couple of 'holiday cottage' companies round here that you can sign your house over to and they operate a full management service from doing the bookings to cleaning and laundry.  I've been told that they are extremely fussy as to the decorative standard, and fixtures and fittings etc, and charge about 20% of the income.  Like any letting business though, there will be good agencies and bad.  :-\

Back in the day my Folks had a few holiday chalets that they furnished from the local salerooms and the mod con was a black and white TV!  Different times though, and all people wanted was somewhere warm and dry to lay their heads when they weren't at the beach or pub, but I remember my Mum being generally pissed off every Saturday in the summer, at the mess people left behind.  ::)  I think they did quite well from them though despite the aggro of dealing with the Great British public on holiday!  :)

There, in a nutshell, lies the problem.  ;)
