Title: Vaux Heritage clear out
Post by: omegod on 24 April 2021, 16:52:03
Not seen it mentioned anywhere so thought I'd pop a link to the auction for the Vauxhall Heritage fleet downsizing, shiny T reg Elite up for grabs, what do you reckon it will fetch ?

https://auctions.manorparkclassics.com/auction/lot/lot-49---1999-vauxhall-omega-v6-elite/?lot=93&so=0&st=&sto=0&au=2&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=48&pn=2&g=1

If it's rust free, then it will make a good classic, and might well fetch a grand or three :-\

But...

It's done 75k, has no MoT, needs a cambelt, and unless it's not cherished/not used/kept in a garage it will rust and will require suspension work in the not too distant future.

And that's not counting anything that needs fixing after being sat.

There are some nice usable classics in that auction.  I like the Pug 205 GTi  :y

Nice at the time, Tig, but probably disappointing these days. I loved my cortina mk4, and always said I'd love another, but I bet I wouldn't.  ;D

That Citroen BX could be an interesting second car 8)

I had one 15 years ago. All revs, front wheelspin and torque steer. I found it pretty tedious tbh.

The one owner xj-s convertible V12 with 65k on it looks a good buy to me.

Also love the manta  8)

The nova will make good money, because it's a two door body-shell. The rally resto brigade will bid that, the Manta might make £5500,  again if two people want it might go to£7000, I'm out.

I had one for a while (apropos of bugger all, it was ex Johnnie Morris, TV animal guy), it was a very nice car, very comfortable, went very well. Foolishly ‘upgraded’ to an XJ6, which was crap.  :(

Watched and bid on this today - but in the end went for £3,600 plus 15% prem.

Not a bad price I suppose - nice car for a future keep

£4140, highest price I've seen an Omega go for in years

The dark Green Viva is identical to my first car, apart from mine being full of rust at 8 years old.
It met its end in a banger race when it was 9 years old and was literally worthless. How things have changed.  ::)

Yes, now a clutch on a 12 year old Astra costs the value of the car.

Cant remember the cost of a Viva clutch, but I remember I could eventually change one in under an hour , as  I burnt out 4 of them and broke 3 gearboxes in not much more than a year.
The difference between a 2 stroke Japanese motorbike and a Viva took a while to register in my teenage brain.  ;D

30 years ago, a friend collected me for some help with a job. On the way, he stopped at one of the fast fit clutch places and handed over the keys. We walked to the caff 200m up the road and had coffee. When we got back to the garage after about 15 minutes the car was in the same spot. We walked in, and the receptionist gave him the car keys in exchange for £50. That was about £5 more than he'd have spent on just buying the clutch. My record for a Capri clutch is about 40minutes, with the car on ramps in the street. That's not a job I'd do now.

I didnt have ramps. Just parked the o/s on the high kerb outside our house. Yes I was that skinny when I was 18.  ;D

That wouldn't have helped with our cars; we considered a 50mm was a good place to start when lowering a car.

I was really hoping that would fetch more.  I suppose that people who want an Omega have already got (at least) one, and probably don't need any more.
