Title: Timing belt kit

02 plate 2.6 Elite is overdue for a timing belt etc. DLK did the last one, even though it has only covered 15K miles it was 6 years ago.  :-[
Any advice about the best kit to buy and which supplier to use would be appreciated.  :y
I did one years ago on a previous Omega but feel free to assume that I know nothing and include as much detail as possible regarding what needs replacing and what I need to buy.

First thing to do is get hold of the OOF cambelt DVD if you dont already have copy.
I assume you have the cam locking / setting kit ?
Then source a Gates or Contitech kit from whichever source is currently cheapest on the internet.

I have the OOF dvd from last time.
I can get a ContiTech kit from Eurocarparts for £136, the water pump they sell is a Circoli, never heard of the make so I do not know if it is any good.
I need to source the locking kit, last time Cliffo B kindly loaned me his.

That's not unreasonable for the belt kit; they seem to have gone up somewhat since I last bought one.


I don't change the water pump unless it leaks.

exactly.
its not driven by or affected by the belts so if its ok id leave it as it is. if it ever needs replacing in the future its a separate job from anything else .

It used to be standard advice on OOF to replace the pump while doing the cambelt, because genuine GM pumps were dirt cheap so it was rude not to.
Then the prices rocketed overnight, and the advice changed. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
