I’ve read some of the aftermarket ones are useless any used these?

Even if it only lasts a couple of years, it's cheap enough to be considered a service item...

One problem I discovered many years back on a Carlton arm that had been replaced with a non gm one was that it was ever so slightly shorter in length ( bush length) so that when fitted and the nut was tightened to its stop it was still loose on the bracket.
It was rectified at the time with a suitable washer that went over the raised non threaded part of the shaft and made it tighten to its correct stiffness. This arm lasted at least 5 years to my knowledge afterwards.
