Hi again chaps,
Now instrument cluster ie fuel gauge temp gauge Rev counter dig display
Mileage will that just be a strait swap or will there be any ecu issues?
-
I believe that you can't put any cluster in as you can get false readings or something like that. :-\ I'm sure someone will be along soon to explain why. :y
-
Okay thanks,
It’s just the bulbs have all gone and the lcd display has gone very dim
barely readable at the bottom just thought it may be easier to change the complete thing🙂

You can just change the bulbs. Cheaper and easier than sourcing a suitable replacement cluster.
-
Is there any one one here that could maybe do such a job
I wouldn’t be any good at a job like that I would do more damage than good😟
-
Just need to undo two or three screws and it pulls out. ;)
May well be a guide in the guides section. Cant remember to be honest, but its a 5-10 minute job.

Here you go.

Tools needed = One screwdriver and one butter knife. :y
-
Have you checked that you havent accidentally dimmed the dash lights on the adjuster wheel at the lightswitch ?
-
Yea I checked that it’s on full the screen just blank on the low setting :y
-
Okay looks straight fwd and where do I source the bulbs
And maybe a stupid question but are there lights for the digital display easily changed?

Anywhere that sells auto bulbs. They are quite standard. I would replace all of them as a matter of course.
The display bulbs, assuming its not a CID, are as easy to change at the dash bulbs. The display bulbs do vary, so you will need to check which ones yours has fitted.
-
Okay excellent chaps, that’s my next fix no 11 of a list of 20 so going well 😀
-
Just as a matter of interest
Does the cid have a top and bottom bulb
Just trying to pre empt if it’s bulb or the actual display :y
-
Thanks for the guid by the way :)
-
CID is a full colour screen and unlikely to be fitted to a 2.2.
Your options are most likely the basic TID (Triple info display: clock/date/temperature) or, if you have a trip computer, MID (Multi Info Display: as above with fuel and radio info).
There are a couple of options, but they are basically the same as the TID/MID and are headunit specific ;)
-
Just noticed that with car lights of the dimmer
Does nothing but with car lights on it goes from dim to just black screen any thoughts🤥
-
There is no dashboard illumination with the lights off.
The Display has full brightness backlighting with lights off, and the dimmer dial controls it with lights on.
-
Okay that explains that then ::)
-
There is no dashboard illumination with the lights off.
....
Which is how it should be on all cars .... maybe then there wouldn't be as many halfwits driving with no lights on 1st thing in the morning or just DRLs

They would still be halfwits, albeit illuminated :D

Hi guys,
I have been very brave and taken the instrument cluster out
So easy I’m impressed,
But now it’s out there I have taken the bulbs out the back of the digital display
They are fixed to little green holders 3 of then have blown they are completely black,
Now are they standard can you buy in the likes of Halfords, complete with green holder as they don’t seem to come out.
Also forgive my ignorance but as for the cluster general illumination
Is it the 4 yellow holders that are the illumination bulbs? And are these sold Halfords etc.
-
The display ones come as "1 piece" with the bulb and holder. The dash illumination are a standard capes fitting, and the bulb pulls out of the holder.
You might struggle at Halfords for the display ones, or to get right wattage of the illumination ones. Try a proper motor factors, you'll get more joy there, than from a cycle and satnav shop like Hlafords.
-
Am I right in thinking there 2watts

Can't remember, see what it says on the bulb.
-
It says is 12/2 w1i
-
Yes 2W (Might be 2.1W that are standard IIRC), you will find 3W are far too bright and will be totally out of balance with all the other dash / console / screen illumination.

Change all of the bulbs, not just the blown ones. They're only a few pence each.
-
I’m going to, can’t wait they been out ages,
Going to be luxury thought the whole dash would have
To come apart to get it out but it was easy.

You miss-understand me - at night you'll find the dash cluster is far too bright compared to the rest of the dashboard - ie. Centre Console, CID display (if you have it) which is backlit in a different way to the other screens and does not have bulbs fitted to the rear, transmission etc, so what you find is you use the dimmer to correct the brightness level and when you get it dim enough to not be distracting at night, the rest of the areas mentioned before aren't illuminated enough. Hope that makes sense!

No I'm with you, the first thing I do when driving a new to me car in the dark is to turn the panel dimmer down as far as it will go; I hate bright dashes. But if you only replace some of the bulbs, the difference in lighting will drive you crazy. I once replaced all the bulbs in a Capri dash because it was out for another reason(probably the heater fan ::) ), and they were so bright I put the old ones back the following day.

Does anyone have a link to the multifunction display bulbs m

Take them into a motorfactors. If I did that now, it would be back together before lunch.
-
Okay been to 5 motor factor shops near me this morning
To no avail, they all act like I’m mad insistent on that they only come in 5 watt form and are used
For sidelights, but the last one bothered to look on his system they do come in 2 watt but have to
Order them in so now I have to wait, but on the up side I did manage to get the multifunction display ones from vx dealer so that was a result 👍
-
Have put cluster back for now and I can see my multifunction display so that’s a great result alone😀
-
The beauty of OOF.
Less than a week ago you had no clue how to remove it. Now its in and out like a yoyo. :y ;D
-
Lol oh yes absolutely :D :D
