What do we think boys and girls , are we heading for a shyate Xmas or does Boris not have the balls for another one ? :(
-
Well the media have started their lockdown campaign so it's probably only a matter of time before Boris caves in! ::)
-
According to what I've seen on the news the NHS want it asap , so someone is going to look very stupid if it does take hold again, a bit of commonsense from people would assist greatly but that won't happen.
-
The Govt. so far, seem pretty determined not to have one. Of course if they eventually give in and have one then they will get slaughtered for doing it too late.
Although I have little time for this Govt. it really is a very difficult position to be in. Cases and deaths are rising again, but if we go back into lockdown the countries economy will take generations to recover.
Most people I come across seem to be under the impression that the vaccines have solved the problem and everything is back to normal now.
I have doubts that it will be over and done with in my lifetime.

Take hold again :-\
it's not gone anywhere other than up :P
Sainsburys announced "please wear face masks instore" today over the tanoy
mandatory face masks and 1+ Meter social distancing in shops ,schools etc would be a big help.
and should never have been removed ::)
that would help with reducing flu and other germs too an no cost to the economy
-
Spotted in the back window of a car today:
Does underwear stop farts? And you're asking me to wear a mask.
-
my daughter worked on the ICU wards throughout the last 18 months ... her recommendation for this winter is, do not get ill enough to go into hospital .... they were at bursting point weeks ago. Too many covid patients & not enough staff
-

Does underwear stop farts? And you're asking me to wear a mask.
I don't wear a mask. 99.9% placebo.
I also refuse to wear your pants over my mouth and nose after you have broken wind.

.....
The Head of school where my wife works never removed the mask rule, so the children and teachers/staff have to wear them in class all day every day.
It was left up to him to decide a while back so he took the decision to continue with the mask rule. :y

Presumably you have the air, oil and ventilation filters removed from all your cars, as they're only pleated paper?
I also wonder how you make tea or coffee.

I'm triple jabbed now, so I'm not going to die, at least......maybe.....hopefully. ;D

You are obviously very risk averse and fearful. I'm not.
We all have to die at some point.
I'm double jabbed but not going for the booster. :y

And flu jabbed, so I should still be around to collect my winter fuel allowance and Christmas bonus. Maybe even my 3.1% pension rise in April. :)

You may drop dead of something unrelated to covid.....like, say, sex with a 20 year old Norwegian girl. :)
.......or getting hit by a bus.
One demise may be more likely than the other. ::)

That IS the headache for the government. Do you let a few more thousand of people die or go into another full lockdown, when hospitalisation is apparently ‘Just’ 10% of what it was in January, with scores of businesses going bust and many thousands permanently losing their jobs? The government just have not got enough money left to fund the measures taken during the past lockdowns, so let us vaccinate everyone we can and just carryon! ;)

I suspect there won’t be the appetite for furlough scheme 2. People got too used to being at home.
I am nearing the end of six weeks here in England. On arrival I could not believe how cavalier everyone iscompared with the Spaniards we left behind. Can’t wait to get back. Infection rates are ten times higher here , maybe the Spaniards wearing masks has helped? Saw students leaving a concert in Lincoln on Monday. Social distancing ? No.

True but Britain is carrying out far more tests than any other comparable European country, so we're bound to have more cases.
A fact the catastrophising media fail to point out. ::)
-
At the end of the day, it hasnt gone away. People are still getting ill and dying. So to my mind it makes sense to carry on taking reasonable steps to protect ourselves and others we may come into contact with.
About 8 weeks ago I picked up something which seemed to mimic Covid symptoms. It was very nasty indeed.
A week later it had transferred to swmbo .Being immunosuppressed it hit her even harder and she ended up going to hospital in the back of an Ambulance.
The Doctors were pretty confident she had Covid until the test result came back negative.
We wouldnt want to go through that (or worse) again, for the sake of taking a few precautions.

Hardly a surprise given that the symptoms for TCV apparently range from diarrhoea to a slight headache and pretty much anything in between.
And if the statistics are to be believed being hit by a bus is also on the list ::)

What did you do two years ago?
That would be a reasonable starting point for 'normal' life. Whatever normal is for you, or anyone else.

???
so an Imodium and an aspirin is all that's needed :-\ perhaps you should pass that on to the W.H.O
I think you need to do a little more research DG
the range of symptoms starts with no symptoms at all ,spreading Covid to god knows how many other people ......
all the way up to not being able to breathe ,long term health issues ,being dead etc

Well the media have started their lockdown campaign so it's probably only a matter of time before Boris caves in! ::)
If he does, it needs to be soon, because if he leaves it and brings in a tighter restrictions - beyond masks etc - in the back end of November or in December, he will get the moniker of the man who ruined Christmas.
I feel a gentler, but faster set of restrictions now - eg, masks, back to table service at pubs, blah blah - might help enough? Though the NHS has always been bollixed once the cold weather arrives, that's nothing new.
Personally, I've kept with the mask in crowded areas, or amongst people I dont trust. And pretty much the same with meeting up with people, I remain choosy.
I'm not so worried about catching it myself, as I'm young enough and hopefully healthy enough to shake it off. I worry about passing it on to those people I care about who would have a rougher time should they catch it from me.
-
The NHS also has to tolerate the fact that most of us have lost our immunity to other illnesses, due to the fact we've been cooped up for so long. I believe that is why the government wanted to relax all restrictions possibly a bit earlier than ideal, to try to build up some of that immunity over the warmer summer months.
But the messaging from the media and (as always, thick) British public was that it was all over. And people completely returned to how it was before, packing themselves as tight as they could into pubs and clubs, cramming in stadiums to watch 22 nancy boys kick a bag of air around, and refusing to simply were masks in supermarkets even when requested.
-
......, due to the fact we've been cooped up for so long. ....
We should be so lucky ..... ::)

Exactly as I said earlier it takes just a little bit of commonsense.

Even though of us who have had to continue to go in have had to curb our social meetings over the last almost 2 years ;)
Not that I've had to go in that often, in in my case, its usually to grotty old buildings that have been devoid of the great unwashed.

Nothing on that list is the exclusive pervue of TCV.
You obviously have every right to choose to hide under the mattress, but that's no way to live and I put to you the same question I put to Albs:
What did you do pre TCV?
BTW, you can get dog food delivered... Our Tibetan Terrorist gets hers straight from the factory. ;)
-
It all started with Boris saying covid was no big deal, and herd immunity would have the dreaded lurgy running for cover. :y
Then there was concern for people over 80. They need a jab as they are the most vulnerable of the 1% who actually die.
Then people over 65
Then people over 50
Then all adults over 18.
This would see covid running for the hills. Job done. Time to move on.
But no......everyone apparently needs a second jab, just to be sure. :-\
While were are at it lets start giving the jabs to all kids over 12. :-\
There is also talk of giving the jab to all kids over 5. :-X
But at least it is now all sorted and life can go back to normal.
Nope......Jab number 3 required if you want to celebrate Christmas (can you see the implied threat here?)
Add in the vaccine passport which, given time, we may need before we are allowed in a supermarket, or allowed to work. It won't just stop at nightclubs. :-\
How much business has folded? How many people are unable to pay their mortgage? How many operations for cancer or any other serious illness have been put on the back burner?
Just my opinion. :)
-

Wales didn't get rid of the mask mandate and you still have to wear a mask in supermarkets etc, but has a higher case rate than England where you don't. Go figure... ???
Incidentally, Rae caught me in his local Coop the other day, not wearing a mask and blissfully unaware that I should be! ;D

In town and, mask less, popped into TUI to enquire after their Euro holibobs rate... Got offered €1.11 ;D Even the Post Office were offering €1.14.
Current staff rate at work is €1.18, although I will need to buy a mask to collect it ::)

Whilst the declared infection rate is high compared to other euro countries, the (English) excess death rate has only been slightly above the long term average since July. ONS graphs on page 2 here:
https://app.powerbi.com/view?r=eyJrIjoiYmUwNmFhMjYtNGZhYS00NDk2LWFlMTAtOTg0OGNhNmFiNGM0IiwidCI6ImVlNGUxNDk5LTRhMzUtNGIyZS1hZDQ3LTVmM2NmOWRlODY2NiIsImMiOjh9
Which kind of brings us back to the "died with Covid" does not always mean "died of Covid". My view is that providing the general death rate stays within a percentage margin of the long term average we just have to carry on regardless. We can discuss what that percentage should be 5%, 10%, 25%, but since zero Covid is not and never has been a possibility we just have to accept there are going to be some Covid deaths* from now on, in the same way as we accepted there would be 10K flu deaths every year.
*And by Covid deaths, I mean people who (probably) would not have died if they had not got Covid - which is basically what the excess deaths is (probably) showing.

This.
An average 137 daily deaths (with covid) over the last 7 days.
We don't seem able to get a breakdown of these figures.
My guess is that half were old and infirm and would have dropped off the perch anyway.
Some probably already had a terminal illness such as cancer.
I think some of the more fearful in society are looking for zero deaths before they feel 'safe enough' to venture out. :-\

On the other hand, I do still wear masks in shops, and on busses & trains (not that I use either very often). It's not that I think they're particularly effective, more that I bought 3 packs (one for each car) when this all started, and I've got to use them up somehow.
If we get to go skiing this winter it looks like the French are going to demand masks in bars/resturaunts and on ski-lifts (even open air chair and drag lifts) but not whilst skiing. And since we spend most of our time in bars, I'd better keep a few back ;D

Do you have to lift your mask to sip your drink? Obviously not, as you are not required to wear them when seated at your table. So how the wotsit can that be effective in any way?
-
I bought two boxes from a firm in Bristol... Rather buy British than the cheap Chinesey rubbish ones that break as soon as you put them over one ear...
Will need them at the airport/in flight/airport and transfer tother end. Looking at the video evidence, Gran Canaria seems pretty relaxed about the whole thing, and obviously eating outside when it's 24/25° isn't a big deal :D

I didn't say it made any sense - I said that's what the supposed rules are going to be. Sitting alone on a chairlift dangling 20 feet above the ground in a force 9 blizzard is probably as safe from being infected/infecting anyone else as you can get, yet sods law says "les rozzers" will get stroppy if you've not got the full hazmat gear on.
Austria are apparently demanding FFP2 or FFP3 grade masks. If I go there I might get one of these :

Looks like something from sex play that went badly wrong. ;D
-
Easyjet is specifying FFP2 non cloth and non vented for its flights. Which is a bit daft as they use bleed air from the first compressor stage to pressurise the cabin...
That it needs the subzero air outside to knock it down to a usable cabin temperature gives an idea of the temperature it starts at... (the air out of the heat exchangers... That frozen ambient air... is about +35/40°C)
Basically having been dry roasted and run through a HEPA filter it's going to be pretty bug free ::)

I am currently in France and you won't get anywhere near a restaurant or bar without a mask and a vaccine certificate.
They seem sensible precautions to me, it's really not that intrusive and, if not that effective themselves they are a constant reminder that it's not business as usual yet.
Besides, I'd rather not share a meal with flat-earth antivaxxers anyway. ;)

The issue isn't so much the air as all the water we exhale with it. Pays to sit just ahead of the wings as that's where the air con packs are ;)
Sitting at the back of the plane gives you the worst of everything.

I don't think I've ever seen Greta laugh and smile like that before! :-\
I wonder if the lad on stage with her has popped her cherry? :o ::) ;D
Shame on you for having such a thought. ;D ;D
Greta is not that kind of girl.
I'm beginning to think she's not any kind of girl.
Well if that lad has popped her cherry then she is no longer a girl, but a woman! :)
And if she's discovered shagging she might leave the rest of us alone! :y ;D
Ahhhh....but did he pop her front or back?
She's Swedish.... So probably both! :D
At once? That's a neat trick ;D
Maybe he brought a friend. They're Swedish you know? ::) ;D

Greta losing her cherry and becoming a woman?
Quite frankly I have no idea what the definition of a woman is in 2021. :-\
I'll ask that nice Mr Starmer. He'll know. :D

Speaking of women ........Biden has just appointed a woman as the first ever 4 star admiral.
Perhaps she is a proper woman.... ::) ::) ::) The sort I should be attracted to. ::)
