No, not wokists, covid:
Covid: New heavily mutated variant B.1.1.529 in South Africa raises concern https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59418127
-
Another 700,000 deaths forecast for Europe. Quite a few countries have lockdowns.
Covid passport coming to a country near you soon? We found it a shock in France on our way home. No chance of getting a coffee or a meal without a Covid passport.
New variant? Pah, just a hoax.

Wasn't planning on going to SA this week...
Anyhoo, no surprise that TCV is spreading. They're busy running around buying up all the bankrupt places they can to be able to continue producing shyte for everyone else to consume :-X
-
The new variant has taken top spot on the news away from drowning migrants. Been nice knowing you. Well.....most of you. ;D
-
Ah yes, this will give the BBC a new opportunity to invite the 'experts' on to demand a Christmas lockdown to flatten the curve, save the NHS or save Christmas. ::) ;D

I vote Christmas.
-
Now this is a very worrying development. :o
A Christmas spoiler in the making? :( :(
Drink and be Merry I say , whilst we can ;D ;D
-
Nope, we must all shut ourselves indoors for ever... Although becoming alcoholics might help.
-
If only we could infect Christmas with an extreme case of Covid and kill both off.

Every cloud.......oil is down nearly 9% over the last two sessions. I guess traders might be thinking they'll get their fingers burned if air travel is affected. Travel companies, airlines well down too.

I doubt forecourt prices will go down 9% any time soon
it's about £1.50 per Litre now and my Omega's wallet thickness sensor will be making the dash flash at me Monday :P

People scoffed at my comment about our rotting corpses in the street , plenty of time yet , maybe just in time for Christmas , seasons greetings ! :y

Christmas is 4 weeks away yet :-\
With every new Covid case ,the Virus replicates a billion times ,mutations (mistakes in replication) are very common :(
the south African variant of concern I mentioned weeks ago when OOF debated mask wearing after lifting of all restrictions .
50,000 plus new confirmed cases today with perhaps 90% of people not bothering to wear a mask in shops ::)
mass vaccination helped keep the death numbers down ,it didn't stop the spread and inevitable mutations ,hospitalisations etc
Covid hasn't gone away ,it's just being ignored by many ,until it effects or infects them :P

I dont bother to wear a mask if the staff aren't wearing a mask.
But then i have been doubled jabbed and have a booster booked for about 2 weeks time :y

It's hardly the black death.
99% will survive and the majority of the the 1% who don't are over eighty.
This sort of news just makes the fearful more fearful.

Worry not DGs mate Joe Sniffle or whatever he is called this week has asked US to release many barrels as OPEC kindly declined the offer. Inflation is the next beastie to occupy everyone.

Which is exactly what they want! >:(
There will be a clamour for restrictions to be brought back, vaccine passport/passes to be brought in etc etc ::)
And the thing is that they know next to eff all about this so called Botswana variant! It might be more virulent than other variants, but it's just as likely that it's about as powerful as the common cold. :-\

Given that most people wearing masks seem unable to wear them properly, it does rather beg the question as to why they bother... ???

In a few years time when Covid is just one of those things people catch, feel shitty for a few days and recover, the big thing will be the NHS being overstretched by people with lung problems from breathing in micro fibres due to obsessive mask wearing! ::)
-
I don't wear a mask and haven't done for a long time now.
I've had 2 jabs for my benefit but won't be going for any more.
I'm happy to mix with the unvaccinated as they offer no more threat than anyone else.
-
Or indeed why we are still made to wear them in Wales? England don’t have to? It is hit and miss trial and error all the way so far :-X

Who knows......perhaps masks from China have asbestos in them. That would make a good story for the BBC...... ::) ::) ;)

That's because Wales is run by the communist Taffia! :o :D ;D
Meanwhile, there have been reports that a cinema in Swansea has been closed down for not checking peoples vaccine status! ::)

I buy British made masks for the odd occasions I am legally obliged to wear one.
And a half of the price of the Chinesey shit ones. :-X

I am considering getting the next batch screen printed... 'Vaccinated by choice. Masked by law. "

I'm with TD on his philosophy. When i go into a shop and see the staff not wearing masks, i think, if they ain't bothered, why should i be. I've had 2 jabs plus my booster as i thought that i was protecting SWMBO, she had her 1st AZ but declined 2nd one due to clotting issues. Now know that i can still pass it on to her anyway. ::) . If i'd have known that earlier i would have passed on the booster.

Oh you mutton say that, I’m sure you never mint it chopsy boy.
-
We still wear masks in shops or when walking into eating establishments etc. Its no real hassle, they are cheap enough, and it might protect somebody... ...I know that's an alien attitude to the sod you jack, I'm alright brigade.
-
I understand the sentiment, but it makes no sense to me...
As an example, you wear a mask to enter a restaurant, whereby you're sat at a table inside said restaurant. You wish to use the facilities, so put your mask back on to walk across the room that you're already in (unmasked).
Equally in the shops, most people wearing masks fail to cover their noses which makes a total nonsense of the whole concept. Either wear one or don't.
-
Amidst all the corrupt UK media hysteria about the 'mutant super variant', South African authorities are insisting that so far that the cases with the Omnicon variant produce a mild illness, but it seems that that message is being completely drowned out by all the noise. ::)
It's possibly just the excuse that Boris needs to bring in vaccine passports/passes which have nothing to do with Covid or the Covid vaccines. >:(

Why ever not? Remember when people smoked, and you could see the cloud of smoke around their table? And breathe their smoke trail whenever they walked past you? Or you could just look up and watch how planes leave a vapour trail. Breathing does exactly the same thing, and a mask reduces the amount and distance it travels.
You are correct about masks not covering the nose though.

I imagine the number of 'variants' is probably about the same as the number of stars in the observable universe. :-X
Expect more variants and more jabs to protect people. :-X
How far are people and governments willing to go with this? :-\

As far as they need to avoid accusations of acting too slowly. Inconveniencing people is better than explaining how you let them die.

Just watched part of the government talk about this on the Beeb it would be far easier to answer the ridiculous questions asked of them honestly by saying " we haven't got a fu**ing clue".

Smoke and fumes don't bother me as much as the smell of chewing gum.
My favourite two smells are burnt Jet A1 and diesel cold starting over water on a cold morning.
I don't smoke because I simply choose not to.

I wear a mask to help reduce spread any covid virus I may unknowingly have, not to reduce my chances of catching it myself.
If I want to reduce my own risks, I avoid the great unwashed, like public transport and McCardboard.

Funny enough we do exactly the same, but we have been amazed over the last couple of weeks by the amount of folk that have simply abandoned the mask wearing, I can only imagine that they believe its simply gone away .

You can buy McCardboard from the dubious comfort of the battlebus.
-
We test every shift. So reasonably confident not to have it.
Had to have a PCR test a week ago because some dirty bastid on my flight apparently had it.
The system is a bit slow though... My flight was on the 11th, had a negative Day 2 test on the 12th, got the dreaded 'you've been exposed' text on the 19th with a caveat saying that I had to self isolate until the 21st if I didn't get a PCR test. So had that test on the 19th and got the negative result late on the 20th. ::)
-
So DG , do you think you are superhuman OR wearing a mask on the plane may have stopped the spread and you catching TCV :D
W.H.O data shows wearing a mask reduces transmissibility by 52%
I see hours after Boris announced the return of mandatory mask wearing in shops and public transport, that SKY NEWS was still displaying their England- "ALL restrictions lifted , mask wearing no longer mandatory" graphics ,every hour before the news headlines >:(
No wonder people get confused ::)
The PCR testing of people entering the UK should not have stopped >:( ,then they might have had a hope in hell of tracing Omicrom carriers ::)
Lets hope science finds a solution before it's too late ,and we don't get a mutation that wipes out most of the worlds population ::)
-
What makes me smile is the announcement that from a date ( few days time) visitors from xxx will have to ….. in the intervening days trallers come scot free and every flight including ones via thhird countries is chocker .
I see Israel have stopped all none residents from flying n from anywhere.

Indeed
we don't seem to have learned anything from previous mistakes with the pandemic :(

Back to square one soon then

Another quiet Christmas possibly.

That TB is the sensible way to go. :y :y
In the likes of a large supermarket our local huge Sainsbury’s, I have tended not to wear a mask since things were looking more relaxed. Now though I will be going back to always wearing a mask when shopping there, or anywhere else. That is the sensible thing to do as TB explains.
I do think that if I personally can avoid infecting one person that is good and worthwhile. I have had my two jabs, and are getting the booster this Friday, but as I understand I can still carry the virus for others to pick up! :o

Yes indeed. After all every year the flu jab is given and that has to be upgraded as required ;)

Not invincible, but equally not afraid.
The main point of my experience was that it took nine days to contact me in spite of having fully completing all the necessary forms and certificates to travel and stay both ways.
It’s possible that the infected person that I may or may not have shared space with had actually checked out of the Premier Inn that I stayed at on my first night back before I had arrived there...
Before you ask, the track and trace form to arrive back allows for multiple addresses if you're not going to be in the same place.
The daughter of one of my colleagues tested positive. Didn't stop her four siblings and both parents from going to school/Work.
Another colleague in Luton is currently in hospital with it. Don't know if he has been vaccinated or if he has underlying issues. I suspect the latter is a given regardless of the former. He probably caught that lurgi doing the rounds in September and then picked up TCV on top of it at his day job.
The recovery and mortality rates were both pretty reasonable (in percentage terms) before last March and they have only improved, especially since the vaccine has been rolled out.
Of course, they won't tell you that on the news. Also, I presume that Omnicrom is so called because it is a threatening sounding bastardisation of All Colours in latin :-X
Just for reference 261,506, 841 total cases globally since TCV got released.
A mere 5,215,617 deaths.
And 236,237,084 recovered.
From a global population of 7,800,000,000.
And if those odds aren't good enough, we've tested the entire population five times over.
As for tweaking the booster, what about all the people who have already had it in the last two months? Are they suddenly dead? Didn't think so :-X

Scientists and Doctors in South Africa are reporting that those who get ill with the Omnicon variant experience a mild illness, but lets not let that get in the way of a decent hysterical over reaction! ::)

If my mild illness you mean a slightly scratchy throat and a hint of fatigue, then yes, mild illness.
Tbh, I'm more fatigued about the constant over reaction than anything else.
-
I'm *STILL* waiting for Track and Trace to contact me after spending a day in close proximity of a colleague who subsequently had a positive PCR. That was about 3 weeks ago, and not a sausage from them.
Not that I believe I contracted it, as I'd been LFT'ing several times a week before going on holibobs and during holibobs, and yet to have a positive test.
But then Track and Trace will never work, simply because its a) Civil Service, b) was set up by the infamous Queen of Carnage Dildo Whorehouse.
