Title: Energy companies
Post by: TD on 08 December 2021, 06:10:50
My 2 year deal with EON runs out today  ::)

So, who reckons they've got the best deal recently with which energy company?

Or is it best (as that money bloke know all reckons) to stay put until March/April next year?  :-\

The cheapest currently is the capped standard variable that you will be put on.

My 2 year fixed tariff with Shell Energy ran out in August this year. When I took it out over two years ago, they then quoted me a 25% saving per month for both gas and electric on the price I was paying previously, which I was more than happy with. After a couple of months they reduced my payment again by a third, so I was paying less than half the figure that was paying pre Shell. This lasted until my tariff ended in August, and I was a nice amount in credit which they refunded to my bank. I got 'compare' quotes on line, but decided to ring Shell direct, and they estimated my new payment would increase by about 50% with the energy price increses. Still good in the current climate, I thought. So I fixed for a further 2 years, and they have notified me last month that my payments were dropping again by around 33%, and I am in credit as well! So my duel fuel payments are now around £100 pm
I have been very impressed with Shell Energy when you hear all the horror stories about fuel providers. And they are a very cash rich company and are extremely unlikely to go bust too.

Well, having a look in depth at my account with supplier, it appears my current DD is £39/month and im £140 in credit, they reckon my DD will increase to £56/month when my fixed period ends, but as im in credit they are going to continue with the £39/month DD  :y

Plus as my boiler was replaced today...CH rated at 'A' HW rated at "A+++" according to the sticker on the front of it....my gas consumption should be lower  :)

I'm on a pretty cheap deal with Octopus, but I still pay £150 a month. Mind you, I do like to keep my old bones warm.

My DD is now* £200 a month.

*well, who the opps knows, as I rang Gitish Bras to set the thing up after they completely cocked up the transfer, and then wouldn't allow me to do it online, only to be told a couple of days later that they are confirming my request to cancel the DD, and that if I didn't give them £300 in the next 7 days they would cut me off.  It will be quicker to wait for that, then to try calling them again.

He has been very clever in his chosen field of expertise and made the most of it for himself, and as you say millions of us folk out here.

He has been a professional throughout and should be admired not degraded. ;)

I've done well with some of his advice, my mate has made himself £1800 over a couple of years by switching bank accounts etc on his advice , I couldn't do that fearing direct debits could be affected but he reckons he's had no problems.

It's a peculiarly British trait to try to knock down and slag off those who are successful, particularly if they have become wealthy in their success.  ::)

You open another account with a bank you don't currently use. Then once that account is open, you transfer it every 6-12 months to someone. You may have to jump through a few hoops and setup DD's or pay in a regular amount every month, but it's all doable.

Leave your 'real' account alone - I've had my HSBC(Midland Bank) one for 40 years - but I've also got Halifax, TSB, Lloyds, Nationwide, and have had Abbey & Santander.
