Good luck with getting it all back, in 2009 I transferred £880 from a Barclaycard to a rival card for nil percent it never ever appeared on the new card having disappeared from Barclaycard completely needless to say I never used the new card.

I wonder what the legal aspect of it is if you get an extra payment into your account? Santander is said to be asking for it back .... can you just say no & keep it?  ???

I would. :y

I am selectively honest. If I find a wallet or purse I will (as I actually have) get it back to it's owner.

I don't feel the same imperative to refund money to a bank. ;D

Yes you have to give it back.

It's not Santander's money that's been "lost". They've apparently processed several thousand direct debits/standing orders twice, resulting in money being transferred from one customers account to another twice.

Is there a specific point of law on this?

If it comes down to the goodwill of the customer  I say a big 'f*uck you' to the banks. I doubt they would be willing to take people to court for a few hundred quid or less.

Jimbob got paid twice. I'll wager that's more than a few hundred £.

Substitute a few thousand for a few hundred.

Banks work in millions, billions, and gazillions ::) ....... JB wages wouldn't even buy a bank executive lunch with wine. :)

It falls under "retaining a wrongful credit". Specific offence.

Whether Santander would pursue it criminally is another mstter. They will no doubt weigh up financial loss vs PR implications.
