70 years. Some going.
Should be good for the UK economy. Hopefully We will be in England during all the celebrations. Is armed forces day early June too?
-
We often do a street party in our road. The last one was V-J Day anniversary about a year and a half ago, socially distanced of course - we all got chairs out, but sat outside our houses rather than group up.
Hopefully we can have a similar party for this anniversary, and hopefully, if people use an element of common sense between now and then, it can be a little less socially distanced.
Its a great way to reacquaint yourself with other residents who you perhaps do not speak to at length that often normally :y
-
As an unsocial old bugger, speaking to people who live near me is something I never do if I can help it. I very quick "hello", at a push, but I dont even like doing that. ;D
-
We will probably have a meet up in the street with the other residents all pretty friendly & helpful my immediate neighbour fell out with me last June he tried to "tell me" what I could & couldn't do in my driveway I explained to him that he had made a terrible choice in who to argue with having had to argue with " scum" for the last 22 years at work & I did not intend arguing on my driveway with a complete idiot.

I have a neighbour like that who seems to think she has a say in what I can and can't do on my property. She even came round once and started telling me where I could and couldn't plant stuff in my garden! ::) >:(
I explained to her politely that as long as I abided by whatever laws, rules and regulations were applicable I can do what I like within reason, but she didn't seem to hear me, so one day I lost my shit with her and I haven't had a problem since! :-X :) ;D

I had really hoped that he would try me again because I enjoy confrontation much to SWMBOS annoyance, but he simply dissapears indoors as soon as I step out of the house, I'm very disappointed..😂😂😂

Not wanting to put the mokkers on it, but it would be a bit of a bugger if the old gal fell off her perch before the event. :o They'd have to find a doppleganger. ;)

Either way we'd get a bank holiday :y

We might get two! One for Lizzies funeral and another for Charlies coronation. :)

Long may she continue. She has throughout been a great ambassador for this country and despite seemingly the best attempts of family and in laws has conducted herself with the utmost dignity and decorum.A great lady :y :y

Got to completely agree with you there, proud to say that I served Her Majesty for a total of 41 years in one way or another. A real shame how members of her family have let her down.
-
Quite right there Baz and Rangie! :y I too did my bit for her Maj. :y She is better than the alternative! (and I don't mean Charlie)
-
Better than the alternatives, very much including Charlie imo.
he is a certifiable moron.

Back in the day he was called Randy Andy by the press.
Not a likeable man......bit of an arsehole really. :-\

Understatement of the week goes to...
His ex wife was a good match.

A school friend of mine was in the Navy and years ago was at some sort of event or dinner where he was there making speech or something. Said he was a pompous tw.@t. :-X

Agreed that the Royal siblings have let the side down . The Queen has done a sterling job.
In the past they would have and did get away with indiscretions but we now live in different times.
Sadly folk have short memories and indeed the young won’t even be aware of the Diana/Camilla carry on, so Charlie boy will be welcomed with open arms.
There was a funny Spanish meme going around where Charles had done his will and left everything to his mother!

Squidygate was a thing a while back.
Reference to Tampax if memory serves. ::)

I am looking forward to Charles being skipped over, and us shouting "God save the King!" for William V :D :D
Cannot see it happening though as I am sure Charles is now just counting down the days.................. ::) ::) ;)
-
Skipping won’t happen. Camilla won’t pass on being Queen/regent/kings consort.
-
Such an irrelevance in todays world.
-
Did I mention I'm related to Cromwell?
Can't see Maj bestowing honours on me ;D
-
I quite like old Charlie and see no reason why Camilla shouldn't be Queen. :y
-
Fairly sure the constitution doesn't allow for a voluntary skip, the to be Monarch has to actively give it up?

Ah, but that is the interesting point. The British do not have a written constitution codified in one document, but is in the form of thousands of legal papers and decisions basically since the Magna Carta of 1215, which in itself did not become law until 1225. Therefore our laws can be changed relatively easily, especially when compared to the American Constitution, which has only 27 amendments, so it would be possible in theory for a modern Royal to refuse to be crowned and pass the honour on to their son or daughter, the former in the current case. No doubt new legislation would have to be created for this to happen.
Will that happen, given Charles age, and the stresses of modern kingship? Who knows, but anything is possible! ;)

What stresses are those then Lizzie? ???
Looks pretty cushty to me! :y It's not like Kings have to go rushing round in armour crushing rebels or repelling invaders anymore? ;D

Being under constant scrutiny, observation by the media, and having to be seen as making the right decisions as our beloved Queen Elizabeth 11 has. Who wants that? ;) When they were absolute monarchs it must have been much easier, with their voice being law and what happens, and no media to contend with! ;D

That's my point tho... They don't have to make any serious decisions apart from which community centre to open that day, and even that is decided for them. :)

So much is 'rubber stamping', but her majesty does much diplomatic work behind the scenes on an international basis, along with ensuring the correct political protocols are followed by the right honorable s at Westminster and Downing Street; what a nightmare that must be!! :o :o ;D ;)

QE11 ???
Either 2 or II if you don't mind. ::)

Well I think it's safe to say that King Charles III will keep his head (physically at least) unlike his ancestor King Charles I and it's unlikely we'll have a civil war where the monarchy is abolished and he has to go into exile like King Charles II did for a few years. :)

Or 65 years if you take into account the proved liar and deceiver, Anthony Eden. He was serious ill but he chose to be PM, and then made the disastrous errors of judgement that he did!! Made this country of ours a laughing stock, and proved we were no longer the power we had been. >:( >:(
I wonder what Joe Biden would have made of that if he had been around? :( ;D ;D

According to my Dad, we are direct descendants of the Lord Chief Justice who ordered the first Charlie to be beheaded. Based only on the fact we have the same surname. ::) ;D
I therefore think it should be my place to do the deed on the third one in the future. :)
In the meantime, I will volunteer to practice on every living PM. :y :)
All but one of them in my lifetime deserved it, and she is no longer with us, so lets get rid of those who are still here. :y
I might let Boris off with life imprisonment, as he (sort of) implemented the result of the biggest vote in history, when no-one else had the guts to do it.
He has proved himself a dickhead in every respect since though.

I think she would have fared even better if she had stepped down a year or 2 earlier. The Tories have a lot of form in stabbing their leader.

I'm not really sure he did, and what we have is completely unworkable. Its a hybrid mess of no benefit, but huge overheads.
So I insist you chop him up. Even ignoring the Brexit mess.
-
I agree about her. She showed signs of being "away with the fairies" in her last couple of years. Such a terrible shame there was no-one cut from the same cloth to replace her though. Major was an utter disgrace.
The deal we currently have is messy, and will have to be changed one way or another. The bastard threw Norn Irn under the bus (apart from other issues) after telling the DUP conference less than a year earlier that he would never do such a thing under any circumstances.
It still remains though, that he did take us out, after spineless May sat in a paralysed Parliament for over two years twiddling her thumbs.
He should have been brave enough to walk away without a deal though. :)
Im not sentimental about him though, so yeah, lets chop him up. :y ;D
Who to replace him with though ????

Someone within the Conservative Party will know already the answer to that, or at least an idea of who it could be. No one can be worse than Boris.......can they? ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)

Why is Bozzle such a surprise?
He has been solidly consistent since he became an MP.

Yes, and I was one who has always been not impressed by him, rating him as a buffoon. I, and the country let him prove we are wrong, but he hasn't! ::) ::) ::)
-
I voted for him and am not whinging about my choice.
-
As i have said before. ::) None of the current crop of politico's, of any colour, are worth a damn. Self serving cretins the lot of them. Oh, did i mention that i have a low opinion of politicians. ;D

The only difference between May and Boris' plan for Brexit is the spiffy new cover he wrote for it. We could have had the same thing about 18months earlier if it hadn't been for him.
He has only ever proved himself a dickhead, it's nothing new or recent.
-

How? He's not your MP. Or are you a member of the Conservative Party?

Nope May's idea of Brexit was to turn us into a satellite state of the EU. Brexit in name only.... ::)
-
He was always perceived as "a bit of a character", who would bend the rules with a twinkle in his eye etc. and get away with it.
It has become very clear that he is a two bob chancer and nothing more.
He isnt the new Messiah (or even the new Churchill) he is just a very naughty boy, who has bullshitted his way through life and thinks he will do whatever he wants and always talk his way out of it.
Its the disease of modern Politicians. They have no guiding principles or beliefs, so just end up immersed in self interest.
It didnt start with Blair, but he took it to a level never before thought possible.
I have never voted Tory in my life, but I did join the party for a year, so I could vote to get rid of May and have a vote on who her replacement would be.
I voted for Boris, and out of the possible choices, I dont regret it.
I did say at the time though that once he had delivered Brexit they could chuck him on the Thames for all I care.
-

Fair point. In which case, I voted for the concept.
